A seeder is a person who has more than 0% of the files described by the torrent. If a torrent has no seeders, then no one has anything to give.

Keeping an eye on the number of peers or leachers present proves also helpful. A peer or leacher is a person who is looking for the files described by the torrent. The more peers the more people are actively looking for the files described by the torrent. As a result more speed is available while downloading.

A tracker is a computer on the Internet. The tracker's role is to manage live torrent files and keep track of statistics. When you open a torrent file in your client software, your client software contacts the tracker specific to that torrent. You client tells the tracker how much of the actual files (described by the torrent) that you currently have.

The upload speed limit can be controlled with the help of the torrent client lowering which proves helpful for slow bandwidth computers. But increasing the upload speed limit increases the download speed for fast bandwidth computers; ideally the upload speed should be kept 80% of the available download speed to attain an ideal situation. The torrent client offers parallel downloads which helps to increase download speeds.

N.B. Legality of downloading with torrents
Considering ethical concerns, you should not download copyrighted materials such as software, mp3, movies and so on. If you do not have the licence for it, it is illegal. There is an additional problem with torrents - in certain countries "only downloading" movies and mp3s is legal, however when downloading with torrents you also share (upload) your downloaded part - and that is not legal anywhere.

Jest to sieć p2p nowej generacji. Istnieje ona już długi czas, lecz nadal wiele osób nie radzi sobie z jej obsługą. Postaram się wytłumaczyć jak ona działa, oraz jak sprawnie i wygodnie z niej korzystać!

Cała ogólnoświatowa sieć, podzielona jest na systemy autonomiczne, które są ze sobą połączone na kilka różnych sposobów. Dzięki temu awaria nawet połowy łącz nie sparaliżuje sieci. Przy przesyłaniu dużych plików ograniczeniem jest to, że dane zawsze płyną jednym, czasami wąskim strumyczkiem, czasami z bardzo daleka. Odpowiedzią jest klient BitTorrent.

Jak zacząć ściągać poprzez tą sieć ?

Żeby zacząć ściągać pliki w tej sieci, trzeba zacząć od pobrania jednego z klientów obsługujących. Powstało ich już bardzo wiele, ale na początek polecam prostego w obsłudze, a zarazem uważany za jednego z najszybciej ściągających pliki klienta - µTorrent.

Jego instalacja nie jest wymagana (wystarczy ściągnąć program z Internetu. Przy pierwszym uruchomieniu programu warto jedynie wybrać sposób z jakim łączymy się z Internetem oraz podać przepustowość naszego łącza, dzięki czemu program będzie ściągał pliki odpowiednio do naszych możliwości.

Teraz juz jesteśmy gotowi do ściągania. Na różnych stronach pojawiają się pliki .Torrent - wystarczy kliknąć w niego (ew. wybrać: otwórz za pomocą µTorrent). Po połączeniu plik już się ściąga (oczywiście jeżeli nie ma jakiś problemów z połączeniem).

Czasem opłacalne jest po ok. 5 min sprawdzić z jaką szybkością ściąga się plik. Jeżeli jest mniejsza niż zwykle w tym programie, to opłacalne jest wyłączenie go, i ponowne uruchomienie. Po tym zabiegu prędkość może wzrosnąć. Po ponownym włączeniu komputera wystarczy kliknąć w ikonę programu i już dokańczamy ściąganie pliku/ów.

Prędkość jednak głównie zależy od ilości seeds'ów i peers'ów - teoretycznie im jest ich więcej, tym większa szansa na dobry transfer - jednak duża ich ilość wcale nie jest gwarancją na uzyskanie dużych prędkości. W praktyce różnie z tym bywa.

Jeśli nie zrozumiałeś czegoś dokładnie, to w temacie jak zacząć ściągać zostało wszystko dokładnie wytłumaczone, żeby żadna osób nie miała wątpliwości

Podstawowe pojęcia

  • .torrent - plik posiadajÄ…cy wszelkie informacje, dziÄ™ki którym zaczniemy pobieranie pliku w nim "opisanego".
  • download speed (down speed) - prÄ™dkość pobierania plików.
  • upload speed (up speed) - prÄ™dkość wysyÅ‚ania plików.
  • seed - osoba, która już pobraÅ‚a ten plik i teraz jedynie go udostÄ™pnia.
  • peer - osoba, która pobiera i udostÄ™pnia pobrane już części pliku.
  • leecher - osoba, która pobiera wiÄ™cej danych niż sama udostÄ™pnia - jeÅ›li nie chcesz być jednÄ… z takich osób staraj sie, by Twoje share ratio wynosiÅ‚o minimum 1.
  • share ratio - stosunek iloÅ›ci pobranych danych do iloÅ›ci ich udostÄ™pnienia, żeby je zwiÄ™kszyć można po Å›ciÄ…gniÄ™ciu pliku pozostawić go na jakiÅ› czas, tylko w celu udostÄ™pnienia innym.
  • klient (client) - program, który potrafi komunikować siÄ™ z danÄ… sieciÄ… (w tym przypadku Torrent).
  • tracker - serwer, który przekazuje nam informacje (adresy IP) użytkowników, dziÄ™ki czemu możemy Å›ciÄ…gać, bÄ…dź udostÄ™pniać pliki.
  • DHT - sÅ‚uży do odszukiwania komputerów, na których znajduje siÄ™ część pliku, której aktualnie nie posiadasz. DziÄ™ki niemu możesz dalej Å›ciÄ…gać pliki, nawet jeżeli tracker nie odpowiada, czy też nie bÄ™dzie już wiÄ™cej dostÄ™pny.

So it's safe to say that respect is what drives people to or not to pay for content that can easily be digitized and pirated. Lo que tiene de bueno, es que uno elije los programas que quiere que se instalen. Es decir, uno puede hacer que se instale C Cleaner, Nero, etc. Lo que ahorra mucho tiempo, porque algo bastante malo de XP, era que uno luego de instalar, debia seguir instalando los programas de uso frecuente, ademas, ya trae skins instaladas.

Si bien estoy con la version 1, estoy por porbar las version 2, que por lo que estuve mirando, trae muchisimas aplicaciones, la descarga es de 1,9 gigas para la version 2 y 680 megas (mas o menos) para la version 1. Por ende, la segunda version, trae muchas mas aplicaciones que uno puede elegir...

Instalé la primera version, porque la segunda, dicen que tiene mas probalemas que la primera, algo que me parece raro.

If I'm curious about an artist or track, I'll probably go get it from a torrent site somewhere, but if I really like it, I tend to buy the physical CD too. Yes, I want to reward the artist, but I also want to have it in high-quality audio. So, every now again I purchase a few titles that have ended up on my hard drive, and on Friday I finally added Sigur Rós' ( ) and Roísín Murphy's Overpowered to the list of albums that have passed muster and deserve purchasing.

Except I just started ripping now and realise that I have an empty Roísín jewel case. No CD. It's in HMV Cork I guess. Did I keep the receipt? Of course I didn't. Oh well, it was a 2 for €15 deal, so no major loss. And I'd imagine that the album will be re-released shortly with her cover of Slave To Love tagged on, so maybe it's not all bad.

And it's worth the €7.50 for the nutty photographs alone.
