Installazione

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

aggiungendo queste linee in fondo al file:

# Medibuntu
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ hardy free non-free

a importando le chiavi:

wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update

Ora possiamo soddisfare le dipendenze con un:

sudo apt-get install build-essential libqt4-core libqt4-dev libqt4-gui libasound2-dev skype

Diamo:

sudo gedit /usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qtextstream.h

sostituiamo questa parte:

#ifdef Status
#error qtextstream.h must be included before any header file that defines Status
#endif

con questa:

#ifdef Status
/** #error qtextstream.h must be included before any header file that defines Status **/
#undef Status
#endif

The Blue & White edition of the 3G Skype Phone has been released on Pay As You Go, this is great news for consumers not wanting to sign a lengthy contract deal as they can now buy the Skype Phone and simply top-up their calling credit as and when needed.

Make free Skype to Skype calls and send free Skype instant messages from your mobile phone to any of Skype's 246 million registered users, no matter where they are.

Skype is a VoIP (voice over IP) system that uses the Internet to transfer your call for free, rather than using the traditional telephone networks who charge to carry your call. Other mobile phone networks forbid you to use their networks for VoIP, but with the 3 Skypephone you get 4000 Skype minutes every single month.

The 3 Skypephone is a fully-featured 3G Internet phone that can also make conventional mobile phone calls and can be used to access 3's broad range of other Internet services which include free Windows Live Messaging and free eBay access.

The 3 Skypephone White is 3G which provides fast data transfer for you Skype calls and general Internet access. It has a 2-megapixel camera and an integrated MP3 player, plus it supports Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0.

If you want to take advantage of free Internet phone calls - or if you already do - then the White Skypephone is the perfect way to set yourself free.

The inclusion of p2p in the Flash 10 beta threatens to bring down everyone from YouTube to Skype. U

The inclusion of p2p in the Flash 10 beta threatens to bring down everyone from YouTube to Skype. Using P2P, Flash sites will be able to serve higher quality video than YouTube at a fraction of the cost. Meanwhile, the combination of the Speex audio codec and the Real Time Media Flow Protocol (RTMFP) will enable sites to seamlessly integrate VoIP without requiring a Skype install. The impact of this change is hard to fathom. We're talking about a fundamental shift in what is possible on the Internet, with Flash demolishing almost all barriers to integrating P2P on any site.

Hank Williams and Om Malik have discussed the potential for Flash 10 to be used for P2P CDNs, and they're largely right on. The biggest problem I see with P2P CDNs is oddly latency, however. While P2P theoretically enables you to choose copies of content closer to you on the network, you still have to negotiate with a server somewhere to establish the connection (for traversing NATs), nullifying the P2P advantage unless you're talking about really big files. As Hank identifies, the sites serving large files are the CDN's best customers, so we are talking about a significant chunk of the CDN business up for grabs. That said, CDNs could easily start running Flash Media Servers themselves with integrated RTMFP. They've already addressed the server locality problem, and taking advantage of Flash deployments would simply be an optimization. Whether the CDNs will realize this shift has taken place before it's too late is another question.

To me, the really vulnerable players are the video sites themselves and anyone in the client-side VoIP space. Writing a VoIP app is now equivalent to writing your own Flash video player. All the hard stuff is already done. Same with serving videos. You no longer have to worry about setting up an infinitely scalable server cluster -- you just offload everything to Flash. No more heavy lifting and no more huge bandwidth bills. In the BitTorrent case, it's mostly a matter of usability. As with Skype, you no longer need a separate install. Depending on what's built in to the Flash Media Server, you also no longer need to worry about complicated changes on the server side, and downloads will happen right in the browser.

The stunning engineering behind all of this should be adequately noted. The Real Time Media Flow Protocol (RTMFP) underlies all of these changes. On closer inspection, RTMFP appears to be the latest iteration of Matthew Kaufman and Michael Thornburgh's Secure Media Flow Protocol (SMP) from Adobe's 2006 acquisition of Amicima. Adobe appears to have acquired Amicima specifically to integrate SMP into Flash, now in the improved form of RTMFP. This is a very fast media transfer protocol built on UDP with IPSec-like security and congestion control built in. The strength of the protocol was clear to me when Matthew first posted his "preannouncement" on the p2p hackers list. Very shrewd move on Adobe's part.

Are there any downsides? Well, RTMFP, is for now a closed if breathtakingly cool protocol, and it's tied to Flash Media Server. That means Adobe holds all the cards, and this isn't quite the open media platform to end all platforms. If they open up the protocol and open source implementations start emerging, however, the game's over.

Not that I have much sympathy, but this will also shift a huge amount of traffic to ISPs, as ISPs effectively take the place of CDNs without getting paid for it. While Flash could implement the emerging P4P standards to limit the bleeding at the ISPs and to further improve performance, this will otherwise eventually result in higher bandwidth bills for consumers over the long term. No matter -- I'd rather have us all pay a little more in exchange for dramatically increasing the numbers of people who can set up high bandwidth sites on the Internet. The free speech implications are too good to pass up.

Just to clear up some earlier confusion, Flash Beta 10 is not based on SIP or P2P-SIP in any way. Adobe's SIP work has so far only seen the light of day in Adobe Pacifica, but not in the Flash Player.

Το non-stop ταξίδι θα διαρκέσει 33 μέρες κατά τη διάρκεια του οποίου η Campbell θα χρησιμοποιήσει διάφορες skype-enabled συσκευές, όπως το 3 SkypePhone, το Nokia N810 Internet Tablet, Macbook Air, Nokia N95, PSP ( The Skype Nomad's travel kit ).

Ah, Melbourne. Considered the 'Arts Capital', the 'Comedy Capital' - now going to have telepathy as street-theatre and I'm not entirely certain if it's a mixture of both 'capitals' at once... from The Age:

... The Telepathy Project, presented by performance artists Veronica Kent and Sean Peoples in the front windows of the Forum Theatre over five days from May 20. Kent and Peoples, who will be sealed in isolated rooms, will attempt to communicate telepathically with each other and the passing Flinders Street audience, and write or draw what they "receive" on post-it notes stuck to the window. The two met at art school, and have been attempting to communicate telepathically ever since.

Well, I guess it could have been useful for examinations. Did they tell the invigilator, so they could have separate papers set?

Mind, I'm more favorable towards something like the Band In A Bubble Project by Regurgitator. Will they consider getting someone to properly tally up WHEN someone thinks something and it is actually produced? Otherwise, just writing lots and lots of random words pinned up, like 'penguin!', 'motor boat!', 'poo!' and 'Eliza Dushku in the Dollhouse Trailer on Youtube!' is bound to get a hit with someone at some point...

"Every night for the past three years we've put aside half an hour, in our separate houses, and tried to communicate telepathically with each other. Then we go online and compare," says Kent.

"A lot of the time we're drawing a long bow, but there have been a few occasions where it did uncannily work. At the end of one session I felt compelled to go and drink a litre of milk straight from the fridge, which I never do. It was kind of disgusting. I usually sit there with a glass of red wine. But when I went online he'd been sending me 'milk'."

Nice guy. All I get is my partner on Skype sending 'Nude! Nude, nude, nude, nude, nude!' Yes, it works - no, I'm not doing street-theater with it.

You can check their show out as a part of the 2008 Next Wave Festival and is on at the Forum Theatre from May 20 to 24, 4.30-8.30pm.

...And if a certain skeptic in Victoria with the initials 'SR' goes to the show and thinks 'NUDE!' at them and it works, I do NOT want photos emailed to me, got it? Ick.

I had thought about this at one point in time at least. Do I really want to use Skype just because its cheap? Well although the answer seems to be yes. Who really wants to turn the computer on each time they want to make a call, or just leave it on the entire day wasting precious electricity. Well, I surely don't.

The biggest question is whether I made the mistake of buying such a phone, if it can be called a phone. I remember insisting my parents to buy a phone which does not require the computer and can just plug up to my router, but what do they know about such a difference, they just know that its a phone and it is compatible with Skype. So, there goes 200-300 bucks down the drain for a particularly useless device. Oh, how the world is so cruel.

The BBC and others are reporting the ‘news’ that VoIP (I expect they mean SIP) credentia

The BBC and others are reporting the 'news' that VoIP (I expect they mean SIP) credentials are often passed in the clear (encoded but not encrypted), leading to potential sniffing and replay attacks in (for example) non-encrypted wifi networks.

What this actually seems to be, though, is the re-hashing of a 'sponsored' article in Commsbusiness (no permalink available), which seems to be not much more than scaremongering by Newport Networks, who coincidentally sell a range of secure Session Border Controller devices for VoIP.

Now, the BBC article does quote Skype and a researcher from Jupiter playing down the issue - I guess there's no smoke without fire, but is this a solution looking for a problem?

Update: Newport Networks have posted some more background to this article in their blog. Thanks to Dave Gladwin of Newport for pointing me to this.

Egal, was andere sagen – das Aussehen entscheidet doch!

Denken Sie an Ihre Körpersprache.

Many have had questions about what Toksee is all about. Generally speaking, Toksee is a social media network that is chalked full of fun tools and communication plugins. What makes Toksee so ingenius is that it combines a freinds network (much like myspace and facebook), Voip services (Like Skype), Video Messaging, Chat Rooms, Instant Messaging services (like AIM), videos (like YouTube) and much more.

A feature I like about Toksee is that you can actually view who views your profile, which is not currently available through myspace.

Free members of Toksee can actually earn money! Learn more here and sign up for free!

The company behind Toksee, Intelecom (stock symbol IECM) has big plans for this soon to be networking giant and those investing in Toksee should see some good growth if they act soon. Learn about Stock options from the link above.

A word to the wise though, if you want to be a part of this, its best to get in on it early. Toksee is destined to be the next billion dollar website (yep, just like Myspace ) and has a much larger following in such a short amount of time.

Whether you are a person looking to meet people online, a business networker, a blogger, or an Internet marketer, aToksee definitely has something very special in store.

Another fun aspect of Toksee is that you can upload music from your desktop and is a great way for self-expression on the web. Toksee is also very valuable as an Internet marketing

Earn money, network better, meet new people, express yourself, buy stock! Join Toksee FREE.

Tubli, Karuemakene! Mahub kõrvale teisigi et oleks mida otsustada. Või jääme selle juurde?

Skype: proof that voice is not the killer app

As we trudge on into the future, we need to question whether the old way of doing things is necessar

As we trudge on into the future, we need to question whether the old way of doing things is necessarily the best. Will your future mobile phone, even support voice calling?

Let's take a look at lessons learned from Skype. eBay purchased Skype a few years ago for an admitted outrageous sum of money, betting on the fact that voice is, in fact, the killer app. Skype was so inviting because the peer-to-peer technology behind it (implemented by the same guy who invented Kazaa), essentially made peer-to-peer voice, free. Exploiting the un-used bandwidth of the participating members, Skype is essentially the give-a-penny-take-a-penny of telecom. You can deliver voice chatting at little or no cost to the network operator.

Somewhere along the way of developing Skype, text chat sprung up alongside the voice chat. Undoubtedly it was seen as "essentially free" and probably helped the early testers tap out messages of "halp!" when their voice connection went down. So why not implement chat indeed?

If you were to re-create Skype from the ground up (and many are trying), you'd make the same choice again to include text chat. What developer in their right mind could leave out text chat? Regardless of how well the voice connection worked, reviewers would most definitely grumble if they couldn't send back and forth their smilies or short notes.

What this really points to is the fact that voice is not the killer app.*

If you look at my desk, and the amount of time I interact with all the items on it, my PC wins without contest. A far distant second to my PC is the ancient sound wave reproduction device sitting to the left, my telephone. My most-used applications are my email client, my web browser, and then a host of office productivity applications. I only use the phone begrudgingly to attend meetings and receive calls from the lobby about guests that have arrived. If my phone died, I wouldn't rush facilities to replace it.

You could point out that my job is more oriented towards computer work, if I were a salesman my priorities would be a little different. The telephone would likely be my primary tool because my job would be to communicate and persuade via a synchronous, nuanced, high-context communication channel.

Another objection might point to a multitude of other professions where computer use is negligible or non-existent. Bricklayers, glass-cutters, day-care operators, waitresses, bus drivers and dry cleaners probably could survive quite happily with no computer at all. I on the other hand never need to use a shovel, flashlight, cash register or hockey stick in in the normal course of my work.

And in these exceptions, we see the pattern emerging:

* depending on the needs of the situation, each application has a collection of "best" tools.

As we teeter on the edge of complete cellular saturation, and gaze in astonishment when mobile searches skyrocket for iPhone users, now is the time to ask ourselves,

"is voice really what I want from my phone? don't I really just want everything in my pocket?"

Just because voice was the initial application of cellular technology does not mean we necessarily should perpetuate the practice of transmitting the sonic vibrations of air passing between two vibrating pieces of meat. Voice is an archaic technology sprung from the biological constraints of our evolution.

I mentioned in a presentation that the current mobile experience "was crap", and someone challenged me, asking if I thought the iPhone was crap. They asserted it was not crap, because it had displaced 15 to 20 minutes of browsing in the morning they would have normally needed to boot their computer for.

Initially I wanted to persist with my statement that mobile was indeed crap, but the decision was no longer mine to make. He had already decided that for those 15 to twenty minutes, his iPhone was the best tool for the job.

From a product and strategy management perspective, this reinforces the notion that we must always ask why and drive further to the roots. If you're in the cellular business and you focus narrowly on voice, you'll get smacked in the head when your competitor blows you away because they have been thinking about communication in all its many forms.

BTW, if you want to see this strategy playing out perfectly, check out the DASH GPS/Mobile search/Traffic Device. Global positioning of YOU is not the killer app, it's really more about whats NEAR you. They figured out if you Google stuff at home and at work, why wouldn't you Google it in your car?

A new type of identity fraud, which sees hackers tapping into voice-over IP telephony accounts, has

A new type of identity fraud, which sees hackers tapping into voice-over IP telephony accounts, has been highlighted by a VoIP equipment maker.

Usernames and passwords from voice-over IP (VoIP) phone accounts are selling online for more than stolen credit cards, Newport Networks has found.

The information allows someone to use the telephone service for free.

Net telephony fraud is still in its infancy, with eavesdropping on calls being the most common security flaw.

Capturing accounts

But the move into stealing usernames and passwords which are routinely sent across the network when a call is made, is a worrying new trend thinks Dave Gladwin, vice president of products at Newport Networks.

"It is still at an embryonic stage but as voice adoption increases it becomes more of a problem and needs addressing," said Mr Gladwin.

The details are not sent as plain text but are encoded in such a way as to be "easily captured and unobscured", said Mr Gladwin.

Credit card details have been traded fairly openly online for some time and can be bought for around $12 (£6) each. VoIP account details fetch a slightly higher price, at $17 (£9), according to Mr Gladwin.

The problem is less of a issue for businesses which routinely offer voice-over IP services for their employees because users are tied into a secure corporate network.

But for consumers, relying on public or unsecured home wi-fi networks, there is more of an issue.

"90% of carriers don't offer a secure VoIP service," said Mr Gladwin.

He estimated it would cost around £2/£3 per subscriber for service providers to instigate the additional level of security needed.

"Most of the software out there has the capability of running in secure mode if the service providers would accept it," he said.

VoIP provider Skype said its service, unlike some of its rivals, offered end to end encryption.

"It doesn't matter whether I'm on an open wireless connection, there is no way someone could get hold of my username or password," said Jonathan Christensen, general manager of audio and video at Skype.

He accepts there are security issues facing the industry, especially for providers that use "less robust security mechanisms" but he questions how big a draw a free VoIP account would be for net criminals.

This is a view shared by Jupiter analyst Ian Fogg.

"I have not seen security issues with VoIP as a big issue. This is partly because such services aren't that mainstream and therefore have not been targeted by criminals in the way that e-mail and online banking services have," he said.
