I know I do!

I just listened to Taking Back Sunday's version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" and I just re-realised how awesome they sounded together. You should totally listen to that song, it's hillarious. I really miss Fred being in TBS. Adam and Fred's vocals were harmonically perfect.

But yeah, I really hope that the new guitarist/back-up vocalist will sound just as good and can bring TBS' music up to a whole new level. Not in a more accessible way kind of thing, but more in terms of better musicianship, songwriting, better material, basically. The first time I heard TBS I instantly fell in love with the sound. Most of my favourite bands right now took a while for me to get into, but not with TBS. It's like discovering chocolate for the first time: you know that this is something you'll be into forever. Many people have said that their latest studio album, Louder Now was a huge decline compared to its predecessors but it's still worth listening to. TBS will always be one of those bands that I can never, ever get tired of.

For those who are wondering, here's the song in question:
http://rapidshare.com/files/115594560/11_untitled.mp3.html

Enjoy :)

morbid children's songs: baby bumblebee edition

I don't get why children's songs are so strangely morbid sometimes.

Chloe's quite taken by a song called Baby Bumblebee right now. Catchy tune, but what weird lyrics it has (for a kid's song).

It starts out fairly innocuously (although who the hell leaves a kid out to play where he/she would run into said insect):

I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee
Won't my Mommy be surprised at me

Then it takes a strange (yet logical) turn for a children's song:

I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee
Ouch, he stung me!

This is a very logical song, for the next stanza is pretty much what one would do when stung by a bumblebee:

I'm squishing up a baby bumblebee
Won't my Mommy be surprised at me
I'm squishing up a baby bumblebee,
Ooh! It's yucky!

Now for the very malleable and formative young minds listening to this song, we've already established that it's fine to play with bees and squish them when they sting you. Excellent, excellent job!

The last stanza delivers the clincher:

I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee,
Won't my mommy be so proud of me,
I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee,
Now my mommy won't be mad at me!

Great. Mommy won't be mad because you played with a bumblebee, got stung by it, and killed it. Why? Because you cleaned yourself up by yourself?

Mommy's just going to be so proud of you, won't she?

Another version of the song have the kid bringing home a baby snapping turtle (?), baby rattlesnake (WTF?!?) and a baby dinosaur (*speechless*), aside from the baby bumblebee. This one ends with the baby dinosaur eating up the kid by the end of the song. Heh.

Yet another version teaches the kid to taste the squished bumblebee after the stinging happens, then throwing up after tasting the squished bumblebee. At least the kid ends up cleaning his/her own mess by the song's end.

And they say rap/rock/pop/ music is bad?

Okay~ here is...!

I was wondering what kind of songs Saori will be singing after leaving the highly popular show, 'We Got Married. Well, wonder no longer! She released a single on 14th May 2008, entitled Happy Virus!

Doesn't have a lot of time to check it out, but here is the cover and track list. According to the people posted in z-degrees.net, the single is full of happy songs, upbeat, and kind of rock/electronic. Well... visit z-degrees.net for the download!

Saori Band - Happy Virus

Track List:
01 응석쟁이 (Feat. 빽가)
02 하쿠나마타타
03 별의 꿈
04 삐삐삐
05 일어공부송
06 응석쟁이 (Inst.)
07 하쿠나마타타 (Inst.)

Here is xx_swit_c_xx review from z-degrees.net!

She's one of those "cute voice" high voices... not a great singer vocally.. but the songs are catchy and happy & cute.... similar voice in my opinion to Jadu?... yeah, similar to Jadu but she sounds more young.. pop-ish... with some rock/electronic feel to it... all the songs are upbeat and catchy though... they don't make you depressed and they don't make you wish you had a boyfriend =D haha...

01 응석쟁이 (Feat. 빽가) - 8/10

02 하쿠나마타타 - 8.5/10 (puahaha... "hakuna matata" is the title^^ like Lion King)

03 별의 꿈 - 8/10 ("Wish Upon a Star").. has a similar melody to another song.. sounds stolen

04 삐삐삐 - 7/10 ("Bbee Bbee BBee")... eh, this one was a bit TOO childish & 'cute' like a elementary kid's song....

05 일어공부송 - 8/10 (not very original... but still nice to listen to)

I just have to say I am feeling really happy today! There is no good reason for it that I can see, other than I feel great!

Surely it can't be because I've been on two big shopping sprees in the past two days? I'm no Sex In The City type clothes fiend, but I have got some fab bargains. My mum and I went to The Shop earlier on today and I broke my record - £36! (that was two skirts, a pair of shoes, three tops, a pair of trousers and a cute as pie Bob The Builder coat for my cousin G to grow into). I should add that I took a big big big bag of clothes and shoes to a charity shop after that though!!

So here I am, typing away and listening to Delirious on my iPod, feeling really uplifted. I only have four Delirious tracks so far - Stare The Monster Down, History Maker, I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever and Wonder - but I am thinking of getting a couple of their albums. I wonder if they might help me find my way?

The ravers will probably end up at Maria where Radio Soulwax is throwing a party and showing of their new documentary "Part of the weekend never dies," while the more progressively inclined rockers will end up at Postbahnhof to celebrate constitution day with Motorpsycho, who are out touring their latest album "Little Lucid Moments."

So, yesterday, I witnessed something on the Today Show that, apparently, many people have been eagerly awaiting: the New Kids on the Block reunion. 14 years after they broke up. 24 years after they first formed. Each member of the band now 38 or 39 years old. My only response was...why? The answer, of course, is obvious: $$$. There were plenty of screaming fans in attendance, and I imagine the upcoming concerts sold-out instantly, but based on their performance, they are definitely putting in the least amount of effort in order to cash in. The singing was atrocious. New song "Summertime" was horrible, and their medley renditions of their hits were unlistenable. Then there was the "dancing," which was ridiculous. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they hadn't even attempted to practice beforehand and were doing it all from memory.

Now, I'm all about nostalgia for the 80s and 90s. The Transformers movie rocked. I'm hoping that the GI Joe movie is cool, and I'm pretty damn excited about the prospect of a Voltron movie. Plus, I think reunions are, for the most part, a great idea. The Eagles have sort of pulled it off, as have The Who and Led Zeppelin. I even think some bands should have broken up and then reunited. The Rolling Stones would have more credibility in my opinion nowadays if they had broken up, and then gotten back together, instead of becoming shadows of their former glory in the interim 25 plus years.

Then, of course, there's the reunion that I am personally most ecstatic about: STP! I'll being seeing the Stone Temple Pilots show on May 31. One of my favorite bands, finally back together! See, my 90s nostalgia runs high.

Now NKOTB are not, and never were, in the league of any of these aforementioned bands, but their nostalgia factor is still high for many people. My only real memory of the New Kids is some dance my grade was forced to be a part of in 7th grade (I think) where we danced to either "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" or "Hangin' Tough." If that wasn't bad enough, we were also all dressed like PeeWee Herman (and who says are educational dollars aren't being spent properly?). So maybe I'm jaded, or maybe my opinion of yesterday's awful performance is simply a reflection of my lack of New Kids nostalgia, but of all the bands to make a comeback, why the New Kids on the Block?

pretty cool. on their new cd that comes june 3rd 2008

lyrics:

Come inside and be afraid
Of this impressive mess I've made
If you take a look now you will find
Perfect insanity
I go away not right
Done away with paradise
See what's going on inside my mind
Please let me out
Please let me out
Please let me

Brand me like an animal
I can still feel them burning my mind
You believe that you made your message clear
Never been enough to really know that I feel
Leaving me with images I know are not real
Are those words of condemnation that I hear

Come inside now I implore
Do you think you can restore
Crucial feelings missing from my brain
Perfect insanity
What seems to be the matter dear
Why do you cry and shake with fear
I only have the best of me insane
Please let me out
Please let me out
Please let me

Brand me like an animal
I can still feel them burning my mind
You believe that you made your message clear
Never been enough to really know that I feel
Leaving me with images I know are not real
Are those words of condemnation that I hear

Don't know how much I can take
Secret thoughts inside me wake
I've lost what it was within me
Oh sweet insanity

I don't know how much I can take
Secret thoughts inside me wake
I've lost what it was within me
Oh sweet insanity

Now I'm trying again to find
The thing that was my mind
Behold the other side
Cause then I've lost my mind

Try again to find
The thing that was my mind
Behold the other side
Cause then I've lost my mind

I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost my mind
I've lost it
I've lost it

Have no idea what this is all about? Check out the exposition.

Most of the music on Rolling Stone magazine's Top 500 Songs came out during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. That's a good place to start.

Here's what I came up for a playlist that should describe the years between John Kennedy's presidential campaign and his brother's assassination.

1. Wonderful World --- 1960 ---	Sam Cooke
2. Presidential Debate ---	1960 --- Kennedy, Nixon
3. The Twist --- 1960 ---	Chubby Checker
4. Television and the Public Interest ---	1961 ---	Newton Minow
5. Green Onions --- 1962 ---	Booker T. and the M.G.S.
6. "Don't Wait for the Translation" ---	1962 ---	Adlai Stevenson
7. Boom Boom --- 1962 ---	John Lee Hooker
8. First American In Earth Orbit ---	1962 ---	Lt. Col. John Glenn
9. One Fine Day ---	1963 ---	The Chiffons
10. I Have a Dream --- 1963 ---	Martin Luther King, Jr.
11. Blowin' In The Wind ---	1963 ---	Bob Dylan
12. Announcement that JFK was shot ---	1963 ---	(Radio Broadcast)
13. Then He Kissed Me --- 1963 ---	The Crystals
14. On Black Power --- 1964 ---	Malcolm X
15. Hello Dolly --- 1964 ---	Louis Armstrong
16. Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out --- 1964 ---	Timothy Leary
17. I Get Around --- 1964 ---	The Beach Boys
18. On the Civil Rights Bill ---	1964 ---	Lyndon B. Johnson
19. A Hard Day's Night --- 1964 ---	The Beatles
20. Gulf of Tonkin Resolution ---	1964 ---	Wayne Morse
21. House of the Rising Sun ---	1964 ---	The Animals
22. Government is the Problem ---	1964 ---	Ronald Reagan
23. Baby Love --- 1964 ---	The Supremes
24. Campaign Address ---	1964 ---	Barry Goldwater
25. Leader Of The Pack --- 1964 ---	The Shangri-Las
26. Wild Thing --- 1966 ---	The Troggs
27. Address to the Nation ---	1968 ---	Lyndon B. Johnson
28. The Dock Of The Bay ---	1968 ---	Otis Redding
29. On the Assassination of MLKJr. ---	1968 ---	Robert F. Kennedy
30. Son Of A Preacher Man --- 1968 ---	Dusty Springfield
31. Eulogy for Robert F. Kennedy ---	1968 ---	Edward Kennedy
32. Sympathy for the Devil ---	1968 ---	The Rolling Stones

I would have liked to include Eisenhower's farewell address, that one that warned against the military-industrial complex, but the Nixon-Kennedy debate made for a stronger opening statement.

Because there was such a wealth of appropriate music for this almost-decade, I established one more mental rules: No band or solo musical artist may be represented more than once in each mix. That said, I felt obligated to include the iconic musical artists in each playlist --- The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones are each included.

I had some fun putting this together.

Remember those innovative presidential television debate between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon in 1960? In unware irony, Nixon himself waxes poetic in one of them that future historians would note that "one or the other of us was elected and that he was, or was not, a great president."

He caps his argument with an especially ironic statement when considering the legacies of each president: "The next president, as he leads America and the free world, can be only as great as the American people are great."

Judging him by his own words, Richard Nixon represents America's opportunist crooks.

There's more represented here than just presidential politics, though.

Who could forget, upon hearing it, Newton Minow's indictment of the "vast wasteland" that was television? Ironic to hear this now, knowing that he said this back in the days of rabbit-ear attennas and three broadcast channels.

Or when, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Adlai Stevenson told the Soviet ambassador not to wait for the translation?

Or simply the announcement that John F. Kennedy had been assassinated?

Or Sen. Wayne Morse's questioning of the morality of the Vietnam War?

It's a shame I limited myself to 80 minutes for practical that's-how-long-a-CD-is reasons. I just had to throw in a last few famous remarks. There was Lyndon Johnson's statement that he wouldn't seek re-election, Robert Kennedy's statement on Martin Luther King's assassination, and Ted Kennedy's eulogy for his brother Robert Kennedy, once the latter Kennedy was assassinated.

I just had to close the mix with Sympathy for the Devil, the 1968 Rolling Stones hit. There was one line in the lyrics that added a nice little coda to it all.

****

"I shouted out, 'Who killed the Kennedys?' / When after all, it was you and me."

okay. when i first saw agyness deyn (new model from britain), i actually liked her. i really really liked her. she's cute, and she's got a different, shittier style than most models. but here's something i realized. her style is ugly. and she is not that cute, she's just channeling another era which other models don't do.

right? she kind of looks like every other indie kid.

recently, though, agyness deyn had her musical debut. she sings with the five o'clock heroes in their song, 'who'. have you heard the five o'clock heroes? to me, they sound like a generic, new york indie band that is trying to sound like babyshambles. and, the guy sounds bad. and what's the effect on agyness deyn's voice?? worst of all, when i hear her sing, i feel like i'm listening to the hit song from a musical. the only time i feel okay is when there is no singing at all.

here's the video.

and, ted kennedy had a stroke this morning.

Good songs for a bad mood:

Monster Hospital (Metric) - Good rage in this song, coupled with inevitable, crushing defeat. I love the concept here - it's not necessarily that the war won, it's just that the war won't stop. I hear ya.
Mending of the Gown (Sunset Rubdown) - A great, crazy, nonsensical song
Anything by the Bloc Party - It feels great when the song is finally over. Like coming out of a really frustrating open-handed slap-beating
Mr. Brightside (The Killers) - Dude is not having fun and makes my problems seem small. His bird is nailing Eric Roberts and not even Eric Roberts circa "the best of the best". That's got to hurt. Smug and shirtless is not how you want to run into Eric Roberts.

Bad songs for a bad mood:

Hunger Strike (Temple of the dog) - I can't believe I used to like that song / date her.
Shiny Happy People (REM) - Weird phenomenon. I find that this song can't alter your mood, it can simply magnify whatever mood you're in. If you're happy, Shiny Happy People is going to make you happier. If you're enraged, Shiny Happy People will make you knee-beat hobos. If you're depressed, Shiny Happy People will make you kill yourself. If you're having a tepid, even day, Shiny Happy People will have no effect.
World on Fire (Sarah McGlocknine McLaughin Mcloaughlyn Mclaughlin)- Jesus Sarah, can you not sing the shit out of just one goddamn song? Also, I get it. While I'm miserable because my computer is lagging when I try to view the hamster dance website, some kid in Africa is trying to find a way to make soup out of dirt. Now I just feel worse. AND red cross always gets my easily-earned $$ after this song.

No impact to a bad mood:

Breakfast at Tiffany's (Contrary to popular belief, not Stroke Nine, it's Deep Blue Something) - This is such a weak argument to get a girl. "Listen, I know we have nothing in common, but we both liked a random movie from the early 60's. Surely that's something we can build on - just take my hand." So where does it go from there after the first date? He should have gone with:

But I said what about
the goddamn Godfather
I nearly lose it
when Sunny gets whacked
And as I recall I think
I won a few oscars
And she said I'm not
That into that
