The film begins with the Joker robbing a mob-owned bank with his accomplices, whom he tricks into killing each other before killing the last one himself. That night, a trio of Batman impersonators interrupts a meeting between mobsters and the Scarecrow. The real Batman appears and apprehends all of the criminals and impostors, but suffers injuries from dog bites, leading him to re-design his batsuit. Batman and Lieutenant James Gordon contemplate including new district attorney Harvey Dent in their plan to eradicate the mob, as he could be the public hero Batman cannot be. Bruce Wayne discovers the new D.A. is dating Rachel Dawes and chooses to host a fundraiser for Dent.

When mob bosses meet to discuss Batman, Gordon, and Dent, a Chinese mobster accountant, Lau, informs the gang leaders he has hidden their money to pre-empt a plan Gordon has hatched to seize the mobsters' funds. The Joker arrives unexpectedly, offering to kill Batman for half of their money, but the offer is refused. After Batman abducts Lau in Hong Kong and delivers him to the Gotham City police, the mobsters agree to hire the Joker. The Joker tells Gotham that if Batman does not turn himself in to police and publicly reveal his identity, people will die each day. When Commissioner Gillian B. Loeb and the judge presiding over the mob trials are murdered, Bruce decides to reveal his identity. Before he can, Dent announces that he himself is Batman and is arrested as part of a plan to draw the Joker out of hiding. The Joker attempts to ambush the police convoy carrying Dent, but Batman and Gordon intervene and arrest him; in recognition of his actions, Gordon is appointed police commissioner.

Later that night, when Dent disappears, Batman interrogates the Joker at the police station, who reveals that Dawes and Dent have been captured by corrupt police and placed in warehouses rigged with explosives on opposite sides of the city; they are far enough apart that Batman cannot save them both. Batman leaves to save Dawes, while Gordon and the police head after Dent. With the help of a bomb planted at the police station, the Joker escapes with Lau. Having been deceived by the Joker, who gave him reversed addresses, Batman arrives at Dent's location in time to save him, but the left side of Dent's face is burned in the explosion. Gordon does not arrive in time to save Dawes and she perishes. In the hospital, Dent is driven to madness over the loss of Dawes. After burning Lau with his half of the mob's money, the Joker goes to the hospital and convinces Dent to exact revenge on the corrupt cops and mobsters responsible for Dawes' death, as well as Batman and Gordon.

Dent, calling himself "Two-Face", goes on a personal vendetta confronting the cops and mobsters one by one, and deciding their fates with the flip of a coin. The Joker announces to the public that anyone left in Gotham at nightfall will be subject to his rule. With the bridges and tunnels out of the city closed due to a bomb threat by the Joker, authorities begin evacuating people by ferry. The Joker places explosives on two of the ferries—one ferry with convicts, the other with civilians—telling all the passengers the only way to save themselves is to trigger the explosives on the other ferry; otherwise, he will destroy both at midnight.

Batman locates the Joker and prevents him from destroying the ferries after the passengers on both decide not to destroy each other. The Joker acknowledges that Batman is truly incorruptible, but that Dent was not, and his madness has been unleashed upon the city. Subduing the Joker and leaving him for the SWAT team, Batman leaves in search of Dent. At the remains of the building where Dawes died, Batman finds Dent holding Gordon and his family at gunpoint. Dent judges the innocence of Batman, himself, and Gordon's son through coin tosses. He shoots Batman in the abdomen, but before Dent can determine the boy's fate, Batman tackles him, and they both fall over the side of the building. Dent appears dead, and Batman and Gordon realize the loss of morale the city would suffer if Dent's murders became known. Batman persuades Gordon to preserve Dent's image by holding Batman responsible for the murders. Gordon destroys the Bat-Signal, and a manhunt for Batman ensues.

cast:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne / Batman
Heath Ledger as The Joker
Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent / Two-Face
Michael Caine as Alfred
Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes
Gary Oldman as Det. Lt. James Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Monique Curnen as Det. Anna Ramirez
Ron Dean as Detective Wuertz
Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow
Chin Han as Lau
Nestor Carbonell as Mayor Anthony Garcia
Eric Roberts as Salvatore Maroni
Ritchie Coster as The Chechen
Anthony Michael Hall as Mike Engel

---

I liked this movie, the story was so complicated, yet, it thrilled me. The visual effect was great, and Heath Ledger (RIP) played the Joker character so well.

and the infamous quote of this movie

WHY SO SERIOUS?

Late Tuesday afternoon, I was on my way home from SFO, having spent the long holiday weekend on the

Late Tuesday afternoon, I was on my way home from SFO, having spent the long holiday weekend on the East Coast. My traveling companion and I were passing the back side of San Francisco's City Hall, when she commented on the beautiful dome.

"Pull around the block," I said, "and if there's a parking place, I'll show you the inside."

As usual, my remarkable parking karma prevailed.

City Hall is such a beautiful place, and so loaded with energy. As we climbed the steps, we passed a lesbian couple. One of the women was actually carrying a bridal bouquet of white roses. She and her new wife grinned at us.

In the rotunda, I paused for moment in tribute to Del Martin. I think her spirit is bound to hang around City Hall and bless any same sex wedding that takes place there.

But it's also hard to be in the building without thinking of the day in 1978 when Dan White changed the city's history, and tangentially, part of the history of women in politics. I guess, as a life-long Bay Area resident, it's one of those days that is frozen in my memory. As we walked around the second story of the rotunda, I found myself trying to explain it to my sweetheart... Dan White's vitriol and anger; the murders of Mayor George Moscone and SF's first openly gay supervisor, Harvey Milk; the asinine "Twinkie defense;" the White Night riots, and Supervisor Dianne Feinstein's ascension to mayor. With late afternoon silence echoing off the ornate marble, it all seemed so improbable.

I remember how impressed I was with Feinstein's incredible grace under pressure in the midst of the most horrifying of situations. San Francisco's first female supervisor, she was suddenly thrust into being San Francisco's first female mayor, a position to which she was elected two more times. She went on to become California's first female Senator, and the first female member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. She recently became the first female Chairman of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee.

(I've got to say, this is the sort of resume that makes Sarah Palin look like one mighty undercooked mooseburger.)

It's hard to explain the effect the murders had on people. I remember, years later in a college class, my art instructor breaking down in tears as he discussed a field trip we would make to City Hall to look at the architecture.

I guess the natural American progression is that after the pain, there's inevitably a movie... and it looks like Gus Van Sant's "Milk," starring Sean Penn, is going to be a good one. It's set to be released on November 26, and you can see the new trailer here. It's hard to watch it without tearing up.

This is a link to Paul VanDeCarr's essay about Milk, the man, and Milk, the movie.

In the last few days and weeks, we’ve seen a rash of stories about concept art appearing all o

In the last few days and weeks, we've seen a rash of stories about concept art appearing all over the place for a bunch of "potential" big time films like HALO and THE GREEN LANTERN...

and I say BOLLOCKS!

Since when is concept art something that we all drop our schedules and run to? Never...it never has been and never will. The only time MAYBE is the concept art from the original Alien film which was so sweet that an exception was made and productivity in the United States plummeted for a 48 hour time frame...look it up.

But other than that, its not really anything to give more than a glance to. First, it doesn't guarantee that the film is getting made or will ever be made. Its just a picture somebody drew up or rendered because some studio executive asked a question like "how green would the Green Lantern's suit be?" and decided he needed to know ASAP! People looking to pitch a new story or film often have concept art made as well as part of the pitch to give some imagery to their idea. On that note, expect Mark Miller to release some "concept" art for his Superman reboot trilogy idea sometime soon as he tries to build buzz and get the gig that he seems to have been "born for."

Sure it can be cool to see what a character might look like on the big screen, but even that isn't a given. Creative revisions are CONSTANT on films and often the end product is a million miles away from when it was first drawn up. Plus when it comes to iconic stuff like the Green Lantern or HALO do you really expect the artwork to differ at all from the classic look? Did you think they might make the Lantern's suit blue or something? or maybe make master chief walk around in an AT-ST? Of course not...

Really the only thing concept art is good for, is for making a new background on your computer or laptop, that is about it. Until you hear the words "director hired" or "script written" or "(a list actor) signed to star" you should assume that the production has not started. Even then you can't assume that it will actually make it to the screen but at least those three events signal more postive signs of development than the release of some glorified sketches.

If you want to see the concept art for HALO or the Green Lantern though (cause some of the pictures are pretty cool...look below at the links). Just don't put too much stock in them. Heck, last time they had a mini test trailer for HALO and it didn't get made so don't get your hopes up too much.

I don't know what Bill Murray whispered to Scarlett Johansson in the movie "Lost in Translation". The reason is that I was taking a nap at that point in the movie, as well as the rest of the points in that movie. Naps are nature's defense system against bad movies. Evolutionarily safeguarding against wasting 2 hours of your life on shitty cinema, natural selection has bred napping on the couch into our genes. Much needed rest can be gained by starting to watch epic shitballs like the newest "King Kong" or anything with Mel Gibson. So here, without further adieu, is a list of movies to nap to!

Contact (1997)

Titanic (1997)

Lost in Translation (2003)

Donny Darko (2001)

Vanilla Sky (2001)

Any other movie (anytime)

The truth is almost any movie is great for a nap. Can't get comfy enough to fall asleep because the movie's just too good? Smoke a bowl about 20 minutes before the movie starts and the movie will get crackin' just as you're starting to get dozy. Naps are healthy and make for better brain function and better moods. Also, the movies in your head as you dream that will be prompted by the actual movie on the tube will be trippy as shit and while it will make much less sense, chances are it will be far more entertaining.

So remember, IF THE MOVIE'S CRAP, TAKE A NAP!

Later.

Presumably the best obituary yet to be.

Jonathan Trager, prominent television producer for ESPN, died last night from complications of losing his soul mate and his fiancee. He was 35 years old. Soft-spoken and obsessive, Trager never looked the part of a hopeless romantic. But, in the final days of his life, he revealed an unknown side of his psyche. This hidden quasi-Jungian persona surfaced during the Agatha Christie-like pursuit of his long reputed soul mate, a woman whom he only spent a few precious hours with. Sadly, the protracted search ended late Saturday night in complete and utter failure. Yet even in certain defeat, the courageous Trager secretly clung to the belief that life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences. Uh-uh. But rather, its a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan. Asked about the loss of his dear friend, Dean Kansky, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and executive editor of the New York Times, described Jonathan as a changed man in the last days of his life. "Things were clearer for him," Kansky noted. Ultimately Jonathan concluded that if we are to live life in harmony with the universe, we must all possess a powerful faith in what the ancients used to call "fatum", what we currently refer to as destiny.

Footnote: You know the Greeks didn't write obituaries. They only asked one question after a man died: "Did he have passion?".

it shows the evolution of film showing in cinema paradiso, a movie theater in giancaldo, the deep friendship formed between the projectionist and the young boy, the experiences of the moviegoers inside paradiso, the love story, the humor, drama, and the rise and fall of the theater. every scene, emotion and facial expression shown were essential to the whole movie. everything about it was perfect. genius.

it really deserved to be the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 1990.

i am not a movie critic and i couldn't say more.

Art of the Day: Magic by Rafal Ozog
Body, why do you hate me so? What do you have against the sleep

Art of the Day: Magic by Rafal Ozog

Body, why do you hate me so? What do you have against the sleep function that is so necessary to your well being?

Monday, I took Benadryl. I had these nasty little bug bites that were driving me insane so after a discussion with my mother in which she informed me I could take Benadryl (I had no idea I could use that for something as simple as bug bites), I did. And happily conked out at 10:30. Tuesday - repeat.

Wednesday - no Benadryl. My body, not used to such long pleasant hours of unconsciousness, felt it was fully rested. So fully rested that I could not fall asleep until 4:30 in the AM. Yes, the AM! When the sun is contemplating whether it has time for another cup of coffee before 'rising' to this section of our fare planet. So when 6:30 rolled around, my hand laughed at my alarms audacity to think it could wake me at this hour and promptly shut it off. Somehow my mind has this amazing ability to know just the right moment to wake me up to where I will curse violently on looking at the time and then manage to make it into work ...ten minutes late. Today, I couldn't even find it within myself to care enough to curse. Violently or nonviolently.

And I look worse even than I feel. Surprisingly, I'm functioning. Not even too terribly. But I look bad. It's like my make-up knows I've had a rough night and there's nothing it can do for me so it doesn't even try.

After lunch...

I take that back about functioning. Eating was a bad idea. Lack of sleep + food = coma. I've got the whole slow motion and glazed eyes effect going for me now.

So. I actually started a new list on 43 Things. I have 5 Things.

#1 - Pay off my car. Which in doing so leads to

#2 - Move to a new apartment.

Lowen rather negatively shot down my six month plan for this by being, of all things, logical. I do hate when people do that. Mentions of credit card interest rates and waiting popped up. Ugg. I'll give her sisterly council some haphazard thought.

#3 - Finish the book I've been "reading".

I say "reading" because I got that book how long ago? I'm on page 55 I think. It's not that I don't like the book. I do. Sort of. It's more that my laptop seems to enthrall me to no end and once I'm sucked in I lose all concept of time and space. It's quite scary, actually. And the book itself is confusing as hell. I'm on page 55 and I still don't know what exactly happened other than something 'apocolyptic', I don't know how long ago it happened, hell I don't even know the character's names other than 'boy' and 'Papa'. So it's a little unnerving. You would think this would eat at my curiosity, driving me to devour the book all the more quickly. But that's where the laptop curse comes back in. The laptop is bigger and shinier and makes musical sounds while the book goes unnoticed on my nightstand. I will finish the book. I just hope it's before my 50th birthday.

#4 - Take a picture every day for a month.

I stole this one from someone else. But it sounded kind of neat and it appealed to my burgeoning yet lazy artist. And I really never take pictures anymore.

#5 - Watch Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

Can you believe I've never seen this? I've seen the knight part with the limbs getting cut off on youtube but that's all. And however disturbing that makes me sound, that one part (along with the various random people who have told me to see it) makes me want to see what the movie is about.

Any other suggestions for my list?

Note to self: Shaking ones head vigorously in an effort to stay awake like they do in the movies does not actually work. Unless goal was to shake brain into submission.

9:00pm - Not very happy with body still. I passed out as soon as I got home from work at 4:30. Stayed happily unconscious until 8:30 when my body decided that my total sleep count for the day was now somewhere around seven hours and I was good to go again. Seeing as how I was awake, I figured I should eat something. Somehow eating just lunch over the whole 24 hour period didn't sound like it would equal good things for me tomorrow. I should have just ignored that impulse. I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. My mom had told me it was supposed to make you sleepy. I don't know why, it just is. So I ate pb&j hoping it would bring me back to a comatose state. Nope. Now my stomach hurts. Guess the ratio of water to pb&j was a little off or something because my stomach feels like its swimming with a lead weight at the bottom.

I'm going to attempt to force lull myself back to sleep but providing the right "environment". Pitch black room, most comfortable bed on the planet, etc. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have so much to update, but have the time to do so.

The holiday I had last week was great!
I had fun (:

(even though I saw some stuffs I shouldn't see...)

But nonetheless, I suppose it had helped to strengthen our bond (:

Had my welfare last Wed at Hilton hotel.
It's damn ex, but the variety is quite small.
I feel that the Jap cuisine is not authentic at all!
Haha. Oh well~

Went to the zoo on Sunday for my mom's company family day.
It started out warm and sunny,
but by noon, it started pouring!
In the end, the rest went home by noon,
while Tiger and me went all over the zoo till 4pm.

The rain was on and off...
but I took quite a lot of pictures.
I've yet to post them up, probably soon when I have the time to get my hp cable and connect my phone to the computer...

I think Tiger was quite excited to see the White Tiger, and the Ocelot (the kitty that roars!)

He was soo mesmerised by them that I guess we spent most of our time there.

Cute... ^^

And the events for this week....

Went to watch Wall-E on Wed.
Cute & heart-warming, not too funny, but still cute...
And did I mention that Wall-E was cute, again?

W.A.L.L.-Eeeee

(:

And yes, I'm so glad I passed my pract 6 last week.
It was supposedly my pract 7 ytd.
But I forgot my PDL, damn it.
I ended up goging for the circuit revision instead.

Oh well, next week, next week...

Targetting to book my TP in Oct (the earliest slot available)

Tata for now~~
I'm so busy.

Yawns......

Yeah it's totally the 90's again! Dan Aykroyd confirmed to E! Online that the third film is indeed moving ahead, and that he wants Apatow and his buddies involved.

Aykroyd said, "Two sharp young writers in Hollywood are purported to be writing the sequel. It would be the third movie now. If I could get Seth and Judd to be a part of it, that would be a dream. Absolutely."

What will the storyline be? Well the old Ghostbusters will hand over their proton packs to the new Ghostbuster's team. If Dan Aykroyd has it way it will probably include Seth Rogen, Johan Hill, and McLovin!

Letting Life In is the story between two people in one year, one being a reclusive novelist played by Patrick Hall named Michael who lives in upstate New York and the other being a cancer survivor named Sarah who takes a job as Michael personal assistant played by the very talented Anne W Griffin.

It’s a low budget film but it’s a very good one. The film is basically a two person movie being only two characters in the film. I liked how the film basically slowly lets you know about the characters you don’t find out everything straight away and how they some how become closer as the movie goes on and then sadly tragedy happens. I like it how it takes it time to tell the story instead of giving it to you in one big blast straight away.

Anne W Griffin is the star of the movie, she is a revelation in this, she gives a wonderful performance, she naturally plays the role, she makes the character human and gives it the depth and understatement it needs to the character of Sarah. She is a real find and she going to have a bright career ahead of her. So watch out for her. It was a really good little film about love, breaking out of your shell and new lease on life.

The acting was fine by both but I thought Anne was really good. Patrick Hall played his character well and made the character the way it you were supposed to feel. The scenery and background for the setting of the film was perfect. For a low budget film it was nicely shot and location was used to good affect.

It is a film at times that is heartfelt and honest and makes you really feel for the characters and wants you to see them be happy and you do like I did do feel sad when the tragedy happens as they have been through so much together, a wonderful drama that deserves to be seen with a star in Anne W Griffin.
