Just ask the original Bennifer (Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez).

The article also mentions the breakups of Ryan Philippe and Reese Weatherspoon, and starlets Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton as cases in point. (There's a mention of Jared Leto, Criss Angel, Cisco Adler and Brandon Davis, but since I don't know who the matches are, I'll leave it to you to draw the lines.) There's also a mention of tattoos, and to me the biggest case of that point is Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder's.

So far, it's only Brangelina who has withstood the intense and frenzied paparazzi scrutiny.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET

"What the hell are dreams anyway?"

I know what you're thinking. Keith, how is it that you're so attractive? Well, I'm just one of those fortunate people who is good looking. You're also thinking, how is it that you haven't seen this movie before? Well, the truth is, I had seen it, but it was a long time ago . . . so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to watch it again.

I don't really need to say anything about the plot, because you all know it out there in Internet land. I'll just state what I thought. First, I can remember being incredibly freaked out by this movie as a kid, and it certainly didn't live up to the memory of the terror (what could as an adult?). The thing that surprised me was that this holds up much better than I thought it would. You see so many horror movies these days, but I wonder if kids today really appreciate the classics like this.

Damn kids.

Bonus points: the protagonist FOUGHT BACK. We don't get to see that enough in horror films.

" . . . and introducing Johnny Depp."

I give it 4 spooky pumpkins out of 5.

Dutton. Following a bitter separation from his wife (Bello) famed mystery writer Mort Rainey (Depp) is unexpectedly confronted at his remote lake house by a dangerous stranger named John Shooter (Turturro).
There's a poll over at Teeny Manolo, and I NEEEEEEEEEEEEED you to go vote for the dad you think has the mostest (Johnny Depp) to vote for.

I mean, honestly... a couple of the choices there just shouldn't even be on there... and then there's that problem of them choosing the yuckiest picture of JD (and I don't mean JD from I do things so you don't have to. (See... now she has to vote for Johnny because she'll feel all guilty not to, like, 'cause I linked to her and all...)

So please, go vote for the person you honestly think should win (Johnny Depp) and I'll be happy knowing you voted with your honest heart (Johnny Depp) and that the best man won (Johnny Depp).

Well, Brad Pitt makes a very short cameo in Dead Man's Chest - watch it, and see if you can spot him...

Having recently watched this film for the 3rd time recently, I think out of the trilogy, this film is by far the best, especially in terms of the over-all quality of the production; from the music of Hans Zimmer, to the superb special effects of Industrial Light & Magic, and of course the acting, which is actually very good - since I suppose we would expect such a swash buckler to have terrible acting, but really the acting complements the story and premise of the story. Moreover - there is actually a very impressive line of good actors in this movie, and great performances - Johnny Depp, who I think is perfect as Jack Sparrow; Stellan Skarsgård as Bootstrap Bill; Tom Hollander as Cutler Beckett; and Bill Nighy as Davey Jones is just brilliant, considering that whilst shooting, Nighy didn't have no mask to hide behind, and so the facial expressions that we see in the final version (tentacles and all) is based upon his original performance. The character of Captain Sao Feng is wholly convincing, (played by Chow Yun-Fat) equivalently - Geoffrey Rush portrayal of Hector Barbossa is done with such conviction and is a pleasure to watch.

The production budget was $225 million, and world wide gross revenues of $1,066,179,725 (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=piratesofthecaribbean2.htm), whereas the Production Budget for The Curse Of The Back Pearl was: $140 million and 500% gross worldwide revenue, At World's End Production Budget being: $300 million with 200% gross worldwide revenue, is it plain to see that the investment made by at these increments reflect the confidence in the success of the trilogy, and also is reflected in the over-all quality, as I have said, of the production.

What I find particularly interesting in Dead Man's Chest are the themes that are explored through-out the duration of the movie. It seems that the writers (Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio) derive a great deal of their style from proverbs, and there are strong allegories to various aspects of human and personal development and exploration, and explores many of the themes of individual freedom, the destructive force of globalisation over tradition and folk culture - indeed, at times, the script can almost appear to consist of true and meaningful wisdom. Combined with the superb visual effects, and performances, the movie appeals on many levels.

If I was make perhaps one observation and dare I say criticism - then it would be with the performances of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner and Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann - OH! Incidentally, Jonathan Pryce as Governor Weatherby Swann is also brilliant, especially the scene near the end, upon the Black Pearl's return from the chest of Davey Jones, where Weatherby Swann sits within a small fishing boat, having died and presumably floating upon an endless sea waiting for Davey Jones to fulfill his obligation of delivering him to the other-side; is it very poignant. As I was saying, I feel that Bloom and Knightley's performances are somewhat overly self-conscious, since I feel that as actors, they are somewhat aware of their own reactions and expressions, and that they perhaps attempt to hold-back in their portrayal of emotion or reaction. But, having said that Knightley is good at acting angrily, and Bloom is good at acting sadness and sorrow. Personally though, I did not get lost in my suspended disbelief by their performances. Which I find slightly disappointing, since it is the actions of these two characters that ultimately drive the plot forward, and it is by these two characters that the film concludes. Personally, I would have been more pleased to see a more involved and intense performance, but then again, given the movie is essentially a comedy/adventure/action swash buckler, I also accept that their performance fitted well into the over-all nature of the story.

Finally, the creativity of the production and cast is evident in the final release, and the film consists of some brilliant cinematography and highly stylised and visual scenes. A testament to Gore Verbinski vision.

Feast your eyes upon Robert Downey Jr. as Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. His look kinda reminds me of a cross between Heath Ledger's 'Joker' and Johnny Depp's 'Sweeney Todd' (minus any ghostly white makeup). Guy Ritchie is the ultimate writer when it comes to psychological twists and turns. With movies like Snatch, Revolver, and the newly released RockNRolla, I have no doubt Sherlock Holmes will be something to look forward to. His only downfall is that he's married to Madonna. Did I mention that Jude Law is Dr. Watson?...

I don't know what this post is going to turn out to be, exactly, but I've had all of this stuff swimming like fishies through my mind lately, and there's a line of thought in the current, I just know there is. Maybe by the end of this, I'll figure out what it is.

It started just prior to my pre-midlife crisis exodus from Dayton. It was difficult for me to respond to comments during that time, but as you know, I always read them, and they stay with me. I'm spoiled by the preponderance of absolutely kind and intelligent messages I get here, so when I received the following, it sort of took me aback:

I don't believe you at all about Jay Silverheels having any affair with you. I knew him and he was a Preacher/Medacine Man and so when was this suppose to have all happened?
Why anyone would even want to show this side to their life is beyond me? And to wait this long to paint such a picture for Great People and One for yourself that is totally disgusting?
You had better run a retraction on Jay Silverheels because he is my Granfather and I knew him personally and He was way to Religious to bother with the like of you! I will be having my Lawyers Contact you?

This was in response to this story, and it truly blew me away that someone could read it and not know that it was fictitious.

Then, I got this one:

i think all this is a bullshit sincerely andrea

That comment was regarding this post, which is completely true. I kind of liked her message though, because it sounded a little like she was typing with an Italian accent.

Anyway, a couple of weeks later, this comment arrived on my blogstep:

This is such biased bullshit. "Normal, unpierced children" that's kinda messed up to say.

Okay, this one was responding to a very old, as per usual sarcasm-infused post, which you can find here (if you haven't fallen asleep yet). Seventy-three pretty wonderful comments on that one, almost all of whom understood the subtle-as-a-sledgehammer tone, then blam!

I thought and thought about how to respond. Snappy answers and evil comebacks swirled around in my head, but then I let them go. But comments like those leave me with thoughts like these:

There are people out there who don't "get" my sense of humor.

There are people out there who take things very seriously.

There are people out there who cannot discern fact from fiction.

I get way too concerned about these things.

In the end, I didn't respond at all. Dee Jay (Tonto's granddaughter) can sue me for all my millions, but I really hope her lawyers explain to her that, seeing as I wasn't even a twinkle in my daddy's eye when her grandpappy was Tontoing, and all of fourteen when he retired, the story was probably meant to be fiction. Humorous fiction.**

I considered suggesting that Andrea call the Dayton Police Department (Riverside Division) to verify the McRobbery attempt. I was tempted to explain to the pierced, very serious commenter that actually, I feel an affinity to those with holes in their faces, and to check her irony valve, but really, y'know? I just don't feel the need to have to defend myself here. This is my peaceful little island, and they were just tourists. So, I let that one go too.

Of these types of comments, I think the one that got to me most was the one with the Italian accent: "i think all this is a bullshit sincerely andrea." I felt a little hurt, and a little indignant. It really bothered me that someone would doubt the veracity of one of my non-fiction essays. And then it occurred to me-- it could all really be bullshit.

For all you know, I'm a 300-pound linebacker from Anaheim. Peter Parkour could be a pole-dancer, Little Miss a forklift driving father of five, and Wendy a small, keyboard-savvy South American tree frog. Any of us could be more full of bologna than an Oscar Mayer meat packing plant (sorry guys, for using you as examples).

But I believe every word that my blog friends write. Actually, I believe every word that almost every blogger writes when they're writing about their own lives. I choose to believe it, because I have no reason to doubt. Most people with personal blogs have no angle-- there's nothing for them to gain by fabricating the details of their lives. My blog buddies don't take away from my life with their stories, they enhance it. They bring me oodles of joy, as do most of the folks who sit snugly on my sidebar.***

The exception to this unflinching trust is when a blogger fabricates details of their lives to garner the sympathy of others, or for personal, professional, emotional or financial gain. That's when the possibility of dishonesty becomes a problem for me. There's an invisible Internet line, and for me, it gets crossed when I feel as though people are being duped or taken advantage of. Teeni at the Vaguetarian Tea Room wrote an excellent, thought-provoking post addressing this subject, and I thank her for it, because it's been on my mind so much lately.

I know of a blogger who once spent hours making a gift for another blogger, only to be given a false address to send it to. Other bloggers give enormous gifts of time, energy and emotional investment to invisible online friends. Some go as far as to send money to people that they've never met. All of these actions are based on the unspoken understanding that what is being conveyed by the blog poster is true. When that turns out not to be the case, I become a little angsty and gut wrenched. Not so much for myself, because I know with certainty that I will always take my coffee with a little cream and naivete, and I really like wearing my Pie in the Sky hat®. But I feel for others, because I know from my own blog that there are some incredibly loving, giving people in this world, and I don't like to see them taken advantage of on any level. We who have forged friendships through blogging give pieces of ourselves to each other. When trust is broken, it chips away at our Internet Joy. It's hard on everyone.

***********

Okay, back to the first part of this post. As for my blog and those doubting Thomasinas who wrote me, I will say this: Truth is almost always stranger than fiction, unless maybe you're Stephen King. You can choose to believe or disbelieve anything you read here, and it's okay by me. I'd prefer that you just sort of pass me by altogether if you can't tell the difference between fact and fantasy, or if you were born TSFYOG.**** If that's not possible, okey dokey, but I probably won't respond.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go down to my secret laboratory where I'm working on my latest invention, an Internet Polygraph machine which I'm selling to Microsoft for $40 million. It's true, I swear it.

**Note to heirs of Mel Torme, Richard Deacon (aka Mel Cooley), Marty Feldman, Dick Wilson, Buddy Hackett, and Madge the Palmolive Lady: I hope that if you come across that story, you'll take it in good spirit, and with a sense of humor. Please know that I have no money and no job, otherwise I'd probably be too busy to produce crap like this.

***On the flip side of this, my blog readers don't believe every word I write, and that's a good thing, since I write both fiction and fiction. How smart you all are to effortlessly glide between the two, and to be intelligent enough to know that no, Johnny Depp isn't really stalking me.

The movie first gained some publicity when we heard it would be staring Johnny Depp, but now things are only getting better.

Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter are now both going to be in the movie. Anne will be playing the White Queen, a monarch who is ousted by her sister Red Queen played by Helena Bonham Carter.

Helena playing the Red Queen isn't a big suprise to many, however I wasn't expecting Hathaway at all. She is really becoming a successful acrtress in Hollywood, and starting in a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie can only help.

Check out the movie for yourself when it's released in 2010. We will definitely be covering more stories on the movie as it comes closer to its release.

So there are some big rumors flying around about the 4th Pirates of the Caribbean movie which might have it's own trilogy. I hope they don't push for the trilogy personally because that will probably lead to forcing out another 3 Pirates movies without trying to make them good. But this might not be the case if one of the rumors is true. Supposedly Gore Verbinski (the guy who directed the first 3 Pirates movies if you didn't know) is returning to direct this movie but there's whisperings about Tim Burton maybe taking over as director. If this is true, then Burton and Depp are going to be spending a lot of time together since Johnny Depp is playing the Mad Hatter (like I mentioned here) in Burton's Alice in Wonderland movie. Seriously I always knew they had a thing for each other lol ;) .

Anyway, Burton would probably do a good job with the Pirates movies especially since they're supposed to be focusing on the past (at least that's what I've heard) when Captain Jack and Barbossa were looking for the Fountain of Youth. I think it's very plausible that this is what the 4th movie is going to be about because another one of the rumors is that Geoffrey Rush has signed on for the 4th movie as well. I do think it would be a better idea for Orlando and Keira to return in this movie seeing as how Will Turner is now immortal and Elizabeth isn't. They could even make it a few years after the end of the last movie so Will's son could be older and go looking for Jack's help or something. But currently I've heard no rumors talking about Keira or Orlando returning so that probably isn't going to happen.

Captain Jack's brother (when did he ever mention having a brother and where was he in the last movie when all the pirates faced off?) is also rumored to show up in this movie. From what I've heard, it's either going to be Sacha Baron Cohen or Russell Brand (you know that crazy guy with the biggest white guy fro I've ever seen that scared people at the MTV award show lol). Sacha's played in a movie with Johnny Depp before (he was Pirelli in Sweeney Todd which I still need to see!) but I haven't really seen anything of either comedian's work. I do think it would be good to have someone with a sense of humor playing Jack's brother though :D . That's all for the current rumors though.

Don't miss The Office episode called "Business Ethics" tonight at 9 on NBC and don't click here unless you want to read a summary of the plot. Also check out this very cool Nightmare Before Christmas theme for Firefox that I just downloaded today. It's a very cool theme for Halloween.

This particular review is for the 1999 version by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ric

This particular review is for the 1999 version by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci.

I remember as a little kid, watching the animated version of this story every year around halloween. Yep I was hooked on horror even as a youngster. Then many years later, along comes this big budget version with the team of Burton and Depp that seems to work very well.

This is the story of the headless horseman. And in this incarnation of the story, Inspector Ichabod Crane (Depp) is sent from New York to employ his skills, with the latest advancements in science at his disposal, to solve the mystery of a series of dead bodies found in the small town of Sleepy Hollow. Bodies with no heads. Of course the locals know who killed these people, but Crane will hear none of it, since there is no such thing as ghosts. That is of course until he see's the horseman with his own eyes taking one of his victims.

There is a nice little romance here between Depps character of Ichabod Crane, and Christina Ricci's character Katrina Van Tassel, and a mystery behind the whole series of events. But I won't give away the good stuff here. What you get is pretty much what you would expect from a Tim Burton project. The look and the feel of the film is very dark and moody, with unique characters and some very cool special effects. Of course there is always a little bit of humor thrown in for good measure, but mostly this is a classic story given the Hollywood treatment, and in my opinion it turns out rather well.

There will be another “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie whether you or I like it or not.

There will be another "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie whether you or I like it or not. Disney has already locked up Johnny Depp to play <del>Hunter S. Thompson</del> Captain Jack Sparrow...again. Look, I love capitalism and I think that everyone should try to go out, work hard, and make as much money as they can. This is just canned-up entertainment designed to make Disney and everyone involved a gabizillion dollars. I realize that isn't even a real amount of money. This movie will make so much money that the world will be forced to invent another monetary term.

There are a few key pieces missing from this movie/money printing press right now. Keira Knightly sounds like the only person that doesn't want to make this movie. The director, Gore Verbinski, is also not signed up for this one yet. While Geoffrey Rush and Verbinski have both said they would be back, Disney may go another way director-wise. Cinema Blend has a scoop that if Disney can't get Verbinski back, they have Tim Burton on the line to direct. They also plan on trying to get Sacha Baron Cohen or Russell Brand to play Jack Sparrow's long lost brother.

Sigh. Why not have the gang go back in time to rescue humpback whales? Ooh ooh, I know...Captain Jack can go on a 72-hour bender with his attorney that ravages Las Vegas hotel rooms? No?
