Also ab in die Cocktailbar vorglühen. Jeder.

About New ‘PUPS’ Legislation
Would Call Out Feds On Many Non-Breeding Kennels
WASHINGTON, DC – The Humane Society of the United States is pushing new federal legislation that the radical animal rights group claims is aimed at stopping large dog breeding kennels that skirt the law.
According to HSUS, the legislation targets only kennels that sell more than 50 puppies a year. The bill’s sponsors, Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Rep. Sam Farr (D-CA), repeat those claims.
They are lying through their teeth, an American Sporting Dog Alliance analysis of the actual legislation shows. In fact, the legislation targets almost every boarding, day care, training and handling kennel in America, along with many hunt clubs and hunting plantations. It also impacts many serious hobbyists, who have a lot of dogs even though they only raise a couple of litters of puppies a year, our analysis shows
Rep. Farr is the prime sponsor of H.R. 6949, and Sen. Durbin is the sponsor of its companion bill in the Senate, S. 3519. The formal name of this legislation is the “Puppy Uniform Protection Statute,” or “PUPS.” It also has been nicknamed “Baby’s Bill,” after a rescued dog from a commercial kennel that is touring the country with its owner, Chicagoan Jana Kohl. Kohl is on an HSUS-sponsored campaign against “puppy mills,” and has visited several states. Her recent book includes a photo of presidential candidate Barrack Obama, and his reported commitment to clamp down on “puppy mills.”
The legislation is an amendment to the federal Animal Welfare Act, which requires federal licensure of commercial kennels (called “dealers”) who sell puppies wholesale to brokers or pet stores. This law does not regulate people who sell dogs and puppies directly to the consumer.
HSUS calls this a “loophole,” and has been pushing for many years to include kennels that sell directly to the buyer. Previous attempts, such as the Pet Animal Welfare Act and Sen. Durbin’s attempted amendment to the 2008 Farm Bill, have failed.
The PUPS legislation is the latest attempt by HSUS.
Here is how HSUS describes the legislation: “The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society Legislative Fund commend federal lawmakers for introducing bills that will crack down on abusive “puppy mills” in the United States — where breeding dogs are often stacked in wire cages for years to produce litter after litter. The legislation will close a loophole in the Animal Welfare Act that currently allows large, commercial breeders who sell puppies online and directly to the public to escape licensing and regulation.”
Here is the HSUS description of who will be affected: “All dog breeders who sell more than 50 puppies per year directly to the public will be federally licensed and inspected…The bill will not affect small breeders and hobby breeders who sell fewer than 50 dogs per year directly to the public, but is crafted to cover only the largest commercial breeding facilities.”

Press releases by Sen. Durbin, Rep. Farr and other members of Congress echo those claims.

Here is what the legislation actually says, in sections defining a dealer and who is exempt from licensure as a dealer.

A person or kennel owner who “does not breed or raise more than 50 dogs for use as pets during any one-year period” and who sells dogs or puppies “directly to the public for use as a pet” is exempt from licensure and regulation as a dealer. Any dog is defined by the Act as a pet, regardless of its use or purpose. Thus, a person who meets that definition does not require a federal license.

The words “breed or raise” are an obvious and deliberate attempt to snare many kennel and dog owners in federal regulations, including many kennels that do not breed at all. The language is very ambiguous and could be interpreted to include virtually anyone who has a lot of dogs.

The term “raise” is not defined in the legislation, but is generally interpreted to mean a person who keeps, cares for, houses or owns a dog or dogs.

Most professional trainers and handlers of field trial, show, obedience or performance dogs would have more than 50 dogs in their kennels over the course of a year. In fact, many trainers and handlers who employ helpers would have more than 50 dogs at any given time, and most do not breed at all.

A boarding kennel, dog daycare service, hound hunt club, hunting plantation or circus could be included under a definition that they “raise” more than 50 dogs per year. Even many private field trialers and show dog people would have more than 50 dogs a year in their kennels, as they often keep most of the puppies they produce to evaluate. For field trial dogs, for example, it often takes two or three years of working with a young dog to determine if it is worthy to use for competition or breeding.

A favorite tactic of HSUS is to deliberately use ambiguity in model legislation in order to entrap as many kennels and dogs in the law as possible, going far beyond the stated purpose. If HSUS and its elected cronies had wanted to be honest, the legislation simply would say that it excludes anyone who sells fewer than 50 puppies a year.

It is obvious that truth is not their highest priority.
The HSUS propaganda mill for this legislation continues to attack people who use the Internet to sell dogs or puppies. It attempts to link Internet sales with sick puppies and shoddy “puppy mills.”
In fact, almost all of America’s finest kennels in every breed have a presence on the Internet. Most have websites, and many run online advertisements to sell individual dogs and litters of puppies.
If anything, a good case could be made that it is almost impossible to buy a high quality puppy from a kennel that does not make use of the Internet. The Internet simply is a reality of modern life, and a reported 80-percent of American households use it.
This smear campaign is simply another attempt by HSUS to tar dog breeders with the broadest possible brush. At best, it shows complete ignorance of the real world of dogs. At worst, it shows a vicious attempt to defame honest and conscientious people who raise dogs.
HSUS is not an animal welfare organization. It has nothing to do with local humane societies. Instead, it is a political action and lobbying arm of the radical animal rights movement that continually pushes for tighter restrictions on animal ownership, with each piece of legislation making a step toward its ultimate goal, which is the total elimination of animal ownership in America.
Another section of the legislation requires all dogs kept in federally licensed kennels an hour of exercise a day, divided into at least two separate periods. Dogs would be removed from their primary enclosures and allowed to walk for these exercise periods.
The final section of the legislation specifically allows states to adopt more stringent standards.
While a member of the California Assembly, Farr also authored legislation to severely regulate dog breeding.
Co-sponsors of PUPS in the Senate are Sen. Dianne Feinstein [D-CA], Sen. Claire McCaskill [D-MO], and Sen. Ron Wyden [D-OR]. House co-sponsors are Reps. Judy Biggert (IL), Lois Capps (CA), Terry Everett (AL), Barney Frank (MA), Elton Gallegly (CA), Jim Gerlach (PA), Patrick Kennedy (RI), Mark Steven Kirk (IL), Daniel Lipinski (IL), Betty McCollum (MN), Thaddeus McCotter (MI), James McGovern (MA), Dennis Moore (KS), James Moran (VA), Patrick J. Murphy (PA), Jerrold Nadler (NY) and Janice Schakowsky (IL).
The American Sporting Dog Alliance is urging all dog and kennel owners to immediately contact their congressman and senator and ask them to vigorously oppose this legislation.
Here is a link for contact information for senators: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm.
Here is a link to contact information for the House of Representatives: http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW.shtml.
The American Sporting Dog Alliance represents owners, breeders and professionals who work with breeds of dogs that are used for hunting. We welcome people who work with other breeds, too, as legislative issues affect all of us. We are a grassroots movement working to protect the rights of dog owners, and to assure that the traditional relationships between dogs and humans maintains its rightful place in American society and life.
The American Sporting Dog Alliance also needs your help so that we can continue to work to protect the rights of dog owners. Your membership, participation and support are truly essential to the success of our mission. We are funded solely by the donations of our members, and maintain strict independence.

Heyas,
Welcome to my first ever blog post! The topic is how to have fun in Second Life. The purpose

Heyas,

Welcome to my first ever blog post! The topic is how to have fun in Second Life. The purpose of this post is to remind myself and others that Second Life can be fun, in fact, it can be an absolute blast.

There really is a lot to do in this crazy pixel world and sex is only one of them. I kind of forget about fun sometimes, getting caught up in all that self-exploration and what not. So this post is as much for me as it is for you.

One of the first fun things anyone should do, even before purchasing Linden Dollars is to go check out free stuffs. There is a lot of it and most of it is not great quality, the fun can be in picking and choosing what is acceptable quality. While you are at it, try on some free shapes and skins to kind of get your avatar more real looking.

Once you have had your fill of the freebie hunts you should get used to the search tool. There is a big old button at the bottom center of your screen that says "Search". Go ahead and click that, come on, it wont hurt. You will a bunch of tabs there but let me just point out two of them. The places tab will let you find any publicly listed place like clubs, shops, hangouts, etc. You have a little drop down box to narrow down the type of place you want to find. Ok now for the real fun.

Click on that events tab. From here you can search for events in SL. Events are what places do to attract people and try get us all having fun as a group. You can narrow down your search type with the handy drop down box as well as what terms you search for. You can also just leave it as is and click search to list all events and types. I highly recommend that newer avatars make use of this and experience some of the social gatherings, make a few friends and learn about social graces in Second Life.

A lot of Second Life is a bit spammy, people advertising heavily to get people to their shops or what not. Don't let that stop you from figuring out how to use search terms and the drop down selectors to filter out the spam. In fact some of that spam can help you find things you will be glad to have found.

The two best types of events in my opinion are live music and dances with a DJ. At these types of events people are encouraged to chat, joke, laugh and have fun. Usually live music is an hour long event and dances are two hours long, this is not a hard rule though.

Shopping? Yes, shopping can be fun especially if you take a friend. It can also be frustrating as waiting for a place to rez (waiting for things to be visible) can really be boring but with a friend you at least can make a few jokes and laugh while you wait.

Clubs are a potential fun thing to do. Often they will be empty unless there is an event. This is not always so, some clubs are rather popular and always have people there. You will find clubs in the places tab or can also use the all tab. I find that I like the results from the places tab better but you should try both and see which you like most.

There are also role play areas in SL. Just like clubs, some can be dull and empty while others will be populated with fun people. Want to be a dragon? knight? elf? kitty cat (I am a cuddly kitty)? vampire? Whatever your thing might be I would bet it exist in Second Life. So go on, have a look at things that interest you.

Sex!!!! Yes, much of Second Life centers around sexual expression and exploration. There are free sex areas but these are often cluttered with unimaginative people who haven't yet woke up to the fun they could really have. There are role play areas that center on sexual themes like gay, shemales, BDSM as well as things best left for you to discover on your own. Do not just pass up on the idea of an SL escort, many of us are experienced in fantasy fullfilment and are worth our price.

Ok well that is enough for one blog post. Maybe I should of broken it down into smaller bits but I was just so excited to get my first post that I lost track of stuff. *giggles* Now go have some fun.

Now, as I have stated, and by no means a smooth guy at a club. I don't even write this blog as some sort of way for guys to pick up girls. I just like the silliness of bar and club culture and I experienced some stuff that was embarassing at the time, but I later laughed about. I just wanted to share it. I'm certainly not the "Pickup Artist" who looks like a mixture of Canada, a Dr Seuss book, and Tommy Lee. Anyway, most of this comes from my little ventures onto the floor and by observing other people...mostly failing.

So I present to you: The Rules of the Dance Floor

1. Don't be afraid to approach a circle of girls on the dance floor. Girls (wisely) usually head to clubs with friends of theirs. They'll head to the dance floor and form a circle all facing one another. They dance half-heartedly, they sing full-heartedly, and they generally seem uninterested in the guys around them. Guys, although it's intimidating, can approach the girls. The trick here is eye contact. If the girl is interested, the eye contact might linger. This is good but...

2. Don't get too close to a circle of girls on the dance floor! Creepers never have much success. If you see that circle of girls on the dance floor, odds are they aren't going to like some random guy running up behind them grinding into them. Generally this leads to a mother hen pulling her friend the other way and giving the serial grinder the cold shoulder.

3. Approach the floor with a buddy. In my mind, nobody trusts the lone wolf on the dance floor. Most guys seem to have some luck meeting a girl on the floor if they out there with a loose plan of team work. Maybe just approach out there and enjoy (or pretend to) the music. Don't face the buddy straight up and both of you should gravitate towards the prospective group of girls. Your group of dudes really shouldn't get bigger than 3. When 4+ guys approach the dance floor, instinct takes control and the guys either go crazy stomping around and spilling drinks singing to one another or they create a stone henge formation and stare off into the distance with a forlorn look. Seriously.

4. Make note of the eye contact. So let's say your out there with your buddy or two and you are near your circle of girls. If one of the girls make eye contact with you a couple of times, then gravitate a little closer. That said, you know what a hate stare looks like. If a girl is giving a look that looks like you killed one of her family members or your run of the mill terrified look, just leave her be. But if she gives you those few glances, gravitate a little bit forward and...

5. Become the Tiger!! OK. So that's a little bit extreme. But this is by far the best part to watch at a club. This is the time where the guy slowly approaches the girl and moves behind her. At this point concerned glances are exchanged among her friends. Everyone is looking to see if you got what it takes. It's fuckin' Judgment Day. Match up your chest with her back and proceed slowly. Don't run into the back of her, just enough so she knows your there. If she is interested in dancing with you, she will look at you and back up into you. TADA! You are now dancing with the girl. Make sure you don't get all handsy though.

But wait, she didn't do that...

6. Know when to call it a game.

[caption id="attachment_32" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Can't win 'em all, kid"][/caption]

So it didn't work. Her friends pulled her away, she gave you the ring face, it just didn't come together. What can you do at this point? Walk. Away. Live to fight another day! Chin up! Cliche inspirational phrase! But seriously, the worst thing you could do is keep going for her. Everybody watches everybody on at the club, don't be that guy who keeps getting rejected.

That about wraps it up. As I said, these rules are from my oberservations. This is not meant to be a scientific guide and I am by no means a ladies man. But shoot, I have to share what I have seen in the wild!

Today after school, i attended a meeting for the VietnameseCultureClub. what i didnt know, was that it was for seniors only. they were electing officers.

i had offered to leave, but they insisted that we (juniors;Kiet&i). right there and then they put our names down for representatives. i was shocked that they would put me down for something. considering the fact i only knew everyone sight, not truly knowing them, knowing them.

but on the other hand i was really happy that they trusted me. unfortunately not Kiet. so i offered Lan. and they gave her high praises for the job even though she wasnt there. -im such a great friend :D

when i got home, it made me realized, i wouldnt have had that position on VCC if i didnt come to that meeting. just think about the other opportunities waiting for me if i was there at the right place and time. but we all know we cant hang around too long, there's other places to be!

In my opinion at least. There has been many exciting things that has happened since i've last posted.

My Drama II class took a field trip (with nice charter buses!) to watch a modern rendition of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, performed by California's Shakespearean theater in Orinda California. Both Viola and Sebastian were played by the same GUY. I did not really like this idea because, at the end of the play, when Viola and Sebastian were to finally meet, the actor ends up talking to himself (switching voices). I took this as a cheap way of compensating for the fact that they made an unwise decision. But art is art and visions are different according to the director. I respect that.

Saturday was the Birthday of little Kiwi! She turned two. She is the baby who is featured in my post about the "Church Picnic" ( the one in the little swim suit). She is very adorable. At the party, a magician was hired. It was some Filipino guy who was very funny and peformed very kid-friendly tricks that were actually quite impressive! HOW DO THEY DO IT? Well, at the end of the night, while watching Little Einstein with little Kiwi, i upset the tired and grumpy little girl by telling her that the animals featured on the screen were seals. The poor thing thought they were fish and got mad a she screamed "NO"! Still, she is a brilliant and blessed little girl. She knows sign language and is a very convincing little actress!

Today, I came home late because I had just auditioned for the Fall Play. Our director has chosen to do a play called Comic Potential. I won't talk much about but if i do happen to be cast, I'll fill you guys in :).

So this week was fun. I went to church with Winston again. Oh, and during bible study, because the building we use is occasionally rented for parties, we were only supplied with one table, forcing us to squeeze close together for once x) It was actually nice :D

So, there is SOME of my week. So much more actually happened. This includes, shopping with my mom (improving my wardrobe) writing at nikki a birthday letter, making fliers for the first fashion club meeting of the year, ignoring my blog because i am lazy.. and the list goes on.

I'll try and make time to write some more. until then...

What are the markers, what do they do?

What are the markers, what do they do?

Stampin' Up! has a range of 'markers' which are double ended markers which match our cardstock and inkpads. They are SOO versatile! You can write or journal with them, you can colour the outside of an image with them, then use an aqua painter (or blender pen) to 'drag' the colour into the picture, you can also colour directly onto the stamp, then 'huff' onto the stamp and stamp it. By colouring directly onto the stamp, you can stamp 'just' what you want to and leave out bits of the stamp you don't want to use. This technique is very hard to achieve using an inkpad, but it is really easy using the markers!

[caption id="attachment_210" align="alignright" width="197" caption="carry box of 48 SU markers"][/caption]

More ideas for other things you can do with your markers:

"ink" up small areas of stamps with them

colour direct to the stamp using different colours

colour in images directly with them

scribble some colour from the pens onto like a dish and pick up the colour using a Water pen or blender pen and colour in.

use with the spritzer.

draw borders, or create coloured faux stitching.

scribble all over a brayer and brayer a unique pattern

colour your stamp or brayer with the markers, spritz with water (not too much water as it muddies it up) and stamp onto watercolour paper, gives a great watercolour effect!

'Thumping', start with lightest colour to darkest colour on a stamp image, then stamp to get a marbled type look.

Edging stamp images (solid ones) with a marker. Ink up the image with you ink then go around the edge with a darker colour.

What is a marker club?

A marker club allows you to buy the whole set of markers, over a period of 4 months.

There are two ways of buying the markers, normally, either by buying them via colour sets ($57.95 per colour set - there are 4 sets), or via buying the full set (48) markers ($233.95) which comes with a horizontal storage 'go anywhere' case which keeps both tips inked evenly.

Each marker club will have 4 members, and will run for 4 months. Over the 4 months, each member will receive a complete set of 48 markers with the carry case, by the end of the 4 month period. Each month, each 4 participants will receive 12 markers from a colour family. The 'hostess' for each month (which rotates every month) will get the 'case', and will also receive $30 in free stampin' up! products of your choice! You can also choose to gather orders from friends/family or schedule a workshop when it's your turn as hostess to earn even more free stuff, including a level one hostess only exclusive stamp set and a free current catalogue free of charge (if you don't already have one). That's a value of $330 for just $65 a month over 4 months (freebies worth $70+!!)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

Haven't been there in a while, and perhaps its just my hood-o-moter that registers all types of foolishness going on and subconsicously makes me stay away. Either that or because House of Blues publicity isn't too journalist-friendly.

Francisco Vara-Orta reports in the L.A. Times:

Within the last 12 months, events at the House of Blues have led to 44 arrests for incidents including fights, drunk and disorderly behavior, and grand theft, according to statistics released in Heilman's report.

The random things that you have to think about as a parent (not that i'm one but my cube is surrounded by them) with little kids is so bizarre that it really just makes one stop and pause, ponder the following:

if at 7 years old you were to create a science club during recess and you were in charge of R&D and went home and jumped on google and in your innocent search for information on how to market your gelato stand on the UWS, because lemondae is so passe, and you stumble onto an anal gel site where are you supposed to go from there?....

you get your kids a webkinz stuffed animal, and once you set up your online virtual playspace (what the fuck happened to going outside to play in the dirt!) you then have to worry about the chatroom sleazebags that may be 40 years old and invite your kids over to their virtual playground to play with their webkinz (and not the stuffed animal kind)---UCH! how gross, and creepy and really unfortunate...what happened to cabbage patch kids?

the phone calls that get made while the nanny is busy watching the two other kids, and the self-sufficient third kid is off planning their socialite shul schedule with their best friend who is the president of the "small pencil club" that has ridiculously strict social standards that one must adhere to for membership and we all know the only reason to really go to shul is to see your friends and what they're wearing anyway.

you leave your kids with your parents who live on a bee farm (how cool that your mom wears a bee-suit!) and your kid picks up the phone to make a call and accidentally calls 911 and freaks out cause now the cops are coming and cops are scary cause they arrest bad guys and your kid will need therapy cause she is now paranoid of dialing a phone and freaks when her sister goes anywhere near the numbers 9 and 1!!!

Done pondering? I can listen to stories like this all day...however, the parents that are one the supervisory end of this stuff might not feel the same way. Who knows, what i do know is I have to go sharpen my pencil and see if I can make the cut and get into the small pencil club! wish me luck!

(New Taiwanese Generation, or NTG), 等等主義 (Literature Ecetera, or LE), 和淨心舍 (Reality Club, or RC).
