"Alles wird gut!" - Der Satz wird zum Mainstream. Vergangene Woche war ein grandioser Abend im SPD-Haus zu Pop meets politics und danach im Muschi Obermeier.

Die Stars des Abends waren Dirk Darmstädter (Jeremy Days) und Mark Chung (Einstürzende Neubauten, Bass). Gagas Kamerasicht der Dinge und ihr Text "POP POLITICS" im Blog: unbedingt lesen!. Zwei bemerkenswert, komische Fotos aus diesem Strang seht ihr ja gerade.

Ich selbst weiss nicht, was auf dem Podium genau besprochen wurde. Hatte eine Art akkustische und mentale Taucherglocke auf und erinnere mich an nichts. Aber mit dem Thema kenne ich mich aus...

Sascha Lobo (Riesenmaschine) war da! Peer Steinbrück kam kurz rein und sagte seine Eröffnungsrede ab. (Verständnisvolles Publikum). Er ging gleich wieder, um Wichtiges sich kümmernd; den Ankauf neuer Hochgeschwindigkeitsdruckmaschinen.

Ich denke an:

POP und höre Leftfield, Klaus Schulze und Einstürzende Neubauten.

POLITIK und das cosmische Währungssystem mit Lösung der Blockierung(en).

POP goes POLITICS! Cosmic kandidiert als Direktkandidat. Mark Chung wird Kanzler.

Aber all das ist nicht das Wesentliche.
Das Wesentliche ist das:

Erzähle dieser Welt, vor allem: Deinen Kollegen, Nachbarn und Freunden davon, dass
1. es einen Gott gibt,
2. der es sehr gut mit uns Menschen meint,
3. wir Menschen uns aber von Ihm abgewandt haben und Ihn vielfältig beleidigen,
4. und deswegen von Gott schuldig gesprochen sind,
5. dies zur menschlich unüberwindbaren Kluft zwischen Gott und Menschen führt,
6. mit der Folge, dass wir vom eigentlichen Sinn und Leben abgeschottet sind,
7. aber die Leidenschaft Gottes für uns so groß ist,
8. dass Sein Sohn Jesus Christus Sein Leben gab,
9. damit diese Schuld getilgt ist und die Kluft überwunden ist,
10. damit wir vollkommenen Sinn und ewiges Leben haben.

Wer darauf in seinem Leben setzt, dem ist vergeben, der darf vor Gott und Menschen neu anfangen, der hat eine Hoffnung, die stärker als der Tod ist.
Wer darauf nicht vertraut, bleibt in der Gottesferne und der absoluten Sinnlosigkeit.

Diese Botschaft - so oder so ähnlich - weiterzugeben, ist eine unserer Kernaufgaben.
So brauchen wir kein Gebet für die Errettung der Menschen - wir brauchen Christen, die zu den Menschen gehen, um ihnen den Weg zur Errettung zu zeigen.
So brauchen wir letztlich keine ausgefeilten Gemeindestrukturen, Emerging Church oder sonstwas - bei allen positiven Aspekten, die damit verbunden sind - wir brauchen Christen, die diese Wahrheit weitergeben!
So will ich soziales Engagement von Gemeinden und Christen - aber unsere Kernaufgabe ist dieses Evangelium.

Im Rahmen unserer Gemeindegründungsgeschichte befinden wir uns seit längerer Zeit in einem sehr internen Prozess. Das soll und muss sein.
Aber mich drängt es in den letzten Tagen, wieder nach Draußen zu gehen - zu den Menschen.
Denn das ist unser eigentlicher Auftrag.
Müssen wir deshalb den internen Klärungsprozess aufgeben?
Nein - er darf parallel zu unserem Hinausgehen geschehen.

Umso mehr freut es uns, dass wir in Berlin sehr viele Spezialfahrräder als Kindertransporter gesehen haben. Leider habe ich das Fotografieren zu spät angefangen. Das hätte eine schöne Serie werden können.

Berlin, Rosenthaler Straße 39, direkt neben dem feinen Touristenmagnet Hackesche Höfe, gibt es im Hof eher anarchisches zu entdecken. Über den Spruch "Wenn Schutzengel Alkoholiker sind, leidet die Katze..." muss ich nochmal nachdenken.

One of the main ideas that I gleaned from Berlin thus far concerns the issue of language.  On page 92, Berlin states,  "Language is a social construction that shapes us as much as we shape it."  I never really thought about language in this way before, but what Berlin says is true.  Many times a person is defined by what words they use, how they talk; basically their dialect in general.  Also, different words mean different things in each culture.  In a society  that is predominantly multicultural, one must be careful when using a particular word that it does not offend someone else.  Language is not a neutral bystander in the hands of humans and I believe that is Berlin's concern in this book-that all things literary have become purely aesthetic.  No longer do we discuss the other aspects contained in the work whether it be political or otherwise;  he is striving to once again have literature, rhetoric, and writing teach people about their world and how to contribute to their society.

So I suppose, then, I'm simply in a no-focusing state of mind. I think you can all imagine that then made reading Berlin a bit tedious.

Admittedly, he lost me around Chapter Three. Prior to that, I was almost hooked. I certainly wasn't bordering on love as I was during my reading of Scholes, but I appreciated what Berlin was saying, and I understood it. Something that particularly stood out was this excerpt:

The nineteenth century, however, witnessed a significant change in the concept of literature. Most important, literature 'lost its earliest sense of reading ability and reading experience, and became an apparently objective category of printed works of a certain quality' (48). Literary quality was thus in the text, not the reader. With this shift came three related tendencies: 'first, a shift from 'learning' to 'taste' or 'sensibility' as a criterion defining literary quality; second, an increasing specialization of literature to 'creative' or 'imaginative' works; third, a development of the concept of 'tradition' within national terms, resulting in the more effective definition of 'a national literature''" (48). (5)

[It was a little scary to realize, while typing that quote, that I don't know how to properly format a quote within a quote within a quote. So I made it up, because my desk-neighbor coworker didn't know it either.]

But this quote? Love this quote (directly linked, of course, to my like for the first 40-some pages of the text). Teaching literature to teenagers is so difficult at times because they cannot (or, sometimes, will not) acknowledge the level of creativity required to create such an explosive text. But when reviewing this quote, the pressure is taken off of the reader. It's the text's responsibility to provide the literary quality, which essentially alleviates the reader's need to decide good text from bad text. And as I type this, I am still furiously trying to employ my metacognitive funnel, and I'm failing because nothing I typed makes any sense. Maybe I'll be more coherent in class. One can only hope.

Siggi Eggertsson is a young graphic designer/illustrator, with already a huge amount of work under his belt.
Born in Akureyri, a small town on the north coast of Iceland in 1984, Eggertsson was raised by his mother, who is also an artist. When Siggi was 15 years old, he started to "fool around" with design programs, making posters for music concerts and art exhibitions.
To quote Lou Reed & John Cale (from their Andy Warhol tribute "Songs for Drella"): "When you're growing up in a small town/You know that you want to get out". There was indeed no Picasso or Michelangelo coming from Akureyri, so when Eggertsson was 18 he was getting a bit bored and applied for the Graphic Design Dept. of the Iceland Academy of the Arts. He got accepted, so he moved to Reykjavík.
To broad his horizons, Siggi did an internship at the New York design studio Karlssonwilker, lived and worked in Berlin before ending up in London.
Eggertsson quickly started to make a name for himself in international design, art and media circles. In 2006, Print magazine ranked him as one of the 20 most promising designers under 30 years old. His works have also been featured in many books and magazines as Computer Arts, Clark and Dazed & Confused.

Eggertsson’s influences are varied and eclectic, from ancient Viking, Egyptian and Roman art, classical painters like Matisse, Legér and Picasso to the current music scene. He also feels inspired by people as Stefan Sagmeister, Peter Saville, Robbie Williams and Vincent Gallo - the way they think, their lifestyles and their approaches to creativity.

Siggi had the luck to do projects for bands as Zoot Woman, The Delays, Gnarls Barkley, ... and open-minded brands as H&M, Nike and Stüssy. Still he feels that his self-initiated work is more important than anything else. It’s where he can experiment and push his style in new directions.
During his stay in Berlin, he created his own version of the cityscape in true Impressionist tradition but instead of taking a canvas outside, he created his artwork directly on his computer.

Eggertsson has a very simple yet very original and recognizable style. He begins an illustration with a sketch on grid paper, and adds abstraction and color later, fusing linear into pixilated shapes. His muted take on geometric & symmetric shapes and curving lines results in impressionistic jigsaw puzzles. Very ‘fresh’ and ‘now’, glorious pop art for the years 2000. “It’s still developing and I’m really interested in how far I can take the style,” he tells. We're curious & looking forward to see his new work and projects.

“I've drawn this image on top of a 12 floor building in Friedrichshain. The battery in my computer does not last for ever, so I had to do it in several turns. I used Illustrator while I was drawing the image, and the colouring was done afterwards in Photoshop. This is an ongoing project”.

Coke Side of Life Posters: Op Art, Pop Art, Minimalism & Surrealism

Eggertsson did 4 posters for Coca-Cola (through Armchair Media). "I was playing with color and shape. Later I realized that each poster is similar to an art movement. The first one is Pop Art, the second one refers to Minimalism, third one is kind of Surrealist and the last one Op Art."

Grundsätzlich ist Meldungen schreiben ja eine sehr konzentrierte und irgendwie auch schöne Tätigkeit. Am Anfang steht ein Ereignis irgendwo in der Welt und mit eigenen Worten wird dieses erst zu einer Nachricht die dann vertont beim Hörer landet. Dieser entschlüsselt den Sinn wiederum und reagiert darauf in der realen Welt (z.b. mit Trauer bei einem Unglück).

Ursprünglich gehörte zu jeder Meldung auch ein Reporter der sie entdeckt, sie einordnet und ihrem Wahrheitsgehalt nachgeht, der sie dann aufschreibt und an die Heimatredaktion funkt. Doch der Aufwand für so ein funktionierendes Korrespondentennetz ist sehr groß und praktisch nur von öffentlich-rechtlichen Sendern zu leisten. "Für die sechs Minuten Nachrichten pro Stunde brauchen wir sowas nicht.", fasst die Nachrichtenredakteurin beim Privatsender in Berlin zusammen. "Wir recherchieren mit ddp und AFP." Was sie damit meint ist nicht Recherche, sondern letztlich abschreiben. Ich war ja hier schonmal auf die Methoden des Copy-und-Paste-Journalismus eingegangen.

Aber gut, ich setze mich an eine Nachricht. Garnicht so einfach den Stil des Senders zu treffen: Zum einen sollen die News seriös und glaubwürdig klingen, auf der anderen Seite nicht trocken sein. "Überlege dir beim Schreiben am besten wie du diese Nachricht einem Freund erzählen würdest.", empfiehlt die Chefin vom Dienst - Gut, über die Ergebnisse der aktuellen Debatte um die Gesundheitsreform habe ich mit meinen Freunden ehrlich gesagt noch keine Gespräche geführt, aber ich verstehe was sie meint.

Beim Schreiben fällt mir auf, wie wenig Platz in so einer Radionachricht ist. Die meisten Meldungen haben nur drei relativ kurze Sätze in denen alle wichtigen Informationen drinstecken müssen. Ich schreibe, verschiebe, lösche, kürze und forme um. Dann schicke ich meine erste Meldung über die Gesundheitsreform an die Chefin vom Dienst zum Drüberlesen. Sie streicht weg, kürzt, verschiebt, formt um und am Ende bleibt kein Wort auf dem anderen. Aber ich muss zugeben: Ihre Nachricht ist die bessere, sie kommt besser auf den Punkt und klingt zwar locker aber nicht flapsig.

Das ist also die hohe Kunst des Nachrichtenmachens denke ich und bin um eine Erkenntnis reicher: Radiomachen ist Handwerk, ziemlich hartes und stressiges Handwerk.

We passed the barrier slowly. It had become colder inside since the window had been open for too long. I donned a pair of gloves and took the suitcase back into my arms. The chill, however, went not away.
The city had us in it's grasp, and we surrendered.

Finally, we arrived at the destination. It was a sandstone building, big and tall and towering. From a far distance, the vultures were eyeing the building. It was out of their reach.
There were huge glass windows, reflecting and cold, with big red banners inside them, giving a glimpse of what was inside, waiting.
The driver opened my door, and I stepped outside, hauling the suitcase to the front. It was heavy.
A woman clad in grey and white stood in the entrance, her white teeth shone brightly into the dark of the day.
I greeted her with a tip to my hat, unable to do else since I carried the precious item in my right.

She bade us follow the lobby down to a single, tiny room, where he would be waiting for us. With a kind but frozen nod, she disappeared behind an enormous desk of lacquered wood.
Going the way she told us, I saw many important people I knew from the papers. Politicians, mostly.
It was weird. They all seemed dead.

Today I met Adolf Hitler. When I entered his room, he already sat there. In his infamous uniform. His arms were resting on the table, weak and lifeless.
He spoke not a word. How could he.
I spent some time watching him. I did not move, nor did he. It was a competition.

I would not lose.
With a loud thud, I brought the suitcase to the table and opened the locks. I knew he would like my gift.
As I opened the lid, Hitler was staring at me, directly into the eyes. His face was hard as stone, his eyes merciless.
I recognized his slightly gray hair and moustache, knowing that it had been dyed not long ago. He was old.

With the opened suitcase on the table, I took Hitler's head with both gloved hands and lifted it from the foamed inside to the collar of his stark white shirt.
I knew that there was a simple bracket to mount the head, and when I lowered it onto the neck, a muted snap told me that it was in place again.

My work was done.
I closed the case's lid and left the room, passing Tony Blair and even the Queen.
I shortly wished the woman goodbye, and leaving Tussaud's, the sun greeted me with thin rays of light.

It was winter in Berlin. And not the last one.

Anyway, at first I decided that I was not going to like Berlin and this book. He seemed, well, snobby in Chapter 1. However, by the second chapter I began to like him much more, maybe because I understood what he was trying to say. This book was totally different than I thought it would be, and while I enjoy Berlin's clarity of writing and thorough explainations, I don't yet know what to make of his message. And while I find his sections on postmodernist theory fascinating, I guess I just haven't made the connection as to what it means to English Studies--yet. He adds little hints at connections, but at some points in the text I had to come up for air and remind myself that this is a book on College English studies, especially in Chapters 3 and 4 with their focus on postmodernism and connection to society.

The history section was nice, and while it repeated much of what we learned from Graff, I found that I understood the schools of thought much more. For example, I never had a clear picture in my head of who the philologists were or what they taught, but now I understand that the philologist's aims were to

discover the national spirit of ancient civilizations, although it was eventually applied to modern cultures of Western Europe and even the United States...Literary study became data-gathering rather than literary or cultural interpretation (31).

He also does a similar job of explaining the other schools of thought that shaped the history of the English curriculum. Maybe that's why I kinda like Berlin; I feel smarter for reading him...

P.S. The crash course in Derrida was interesting as well, and I think I liked it so much because for the first time I read something about Derrida's work that I understood! Yay, I'm all set for Lit. Crit. now, right?

Fassen wir kurz die schädlichen Auswirkungen zusammen:

• Wir binden uns durch Unvergebenheit an die Person oder Situation und werden ihr immer ähnlicher bzw. sie prägt uns immer tiefer.
• Bitterkeit und Haß breiten sich in unserem Denken aus.
• Bitterkeit kann uns körperlich und seelisch krank machen. Viele Alkoholprobleme haben hier ihre Wurzeln.
• Wir verlieren die Freiheit, bestimmte Dinge zu tun.
• Anstatt Schutz hinter unserer Mauer zu finden, werden wir durch die Mauern der Unvergebenheit eingekerkert.

Jeder der schon einmal verzeihen wollte, weiß wie schwierig dies sein kann, wenn die Gefühle etwas ganz anderes sagen als unser Wille. Deswegen hier zehn praktische Tips, wie wir Schritt für Schritt in einen Lebensstil des Vergebens und der inneren Freiheit hineinkommen können.

Denken Sie an Situationen, wo andere Menschen Ihnen schon einmal verziehen haben.

Vergegenwärtigen Sie sich, dass Gott für ihre Fehler gestorben ist und Ihnen all ihre Verfehlungen vergeben hat.

Stellen sie sich bildlich vor, welche Auswirkungen ihre Bitterkeit im schlimmsten Fall in einer speziellen Situation für ihr eigenes Leben haben kann.

Bitten Sie Gott um Kraft vergeben zu können. Solange bis die Kraft von oben kommt.

Sprechen Sie die Vergebung laut mit Worten aus, auch wenn Sie es noch nicht fühlen. Vergebung ist eine Entscheidung.

Vergeben Sie einer Person nicht allgemein, sondern vergeben Sie ihr eine bestimmte Situation oder eine bestimmte Verhaltensweise.

Stellen Sie sich bildlich vor, wie Gott auch diese Person liebt und für sie gestorben ist.

Treffen Sie die Entscheidung, die Schwächen und Bedürfnisse des anderen anzuerkennen.

Fangen Sie an, Gott für diese Person zu danken und beten Sie für die Bedürfnisse dieser Person. Besonders das Danken wird viele neue Dinge freisetzen. Vielleicht können Sie die Person auch in kleinen Dingen praktisch unterstützen.

Hören Sie nicht auf ihre Gefühle, weil Sie wissen, dass Sie die richtige Entscheidung getroffen haben und es das Beste für Ihr eigenes Leben ist.

Wenn Sie Gott den Vater noch nicht kennen, dann bitten Sie Jesus jetzt, dass er Ihnen vergibt und in Ihr Leben kommt.
