Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Product Description
Stylishly and intelligently designed for mobile professionals, Apple's MacBook Pro now includes Apple's Multi-Touch technology (which debuted with the MacBook Air), allowing you to pinch, swipe, or rotate to enlarge text, advance through photos, or adjust an image. And it gets a serious speed bump from Intel's latest 2.4 GHz 45-nanometer Penryn series Core 2 Duo processor, which also helps to reduce power requirements and save on battery life. This model (MB133LL/A ) also has a mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display measuring 15.4 inches and a state-of-the art NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card with 256 MB of GDDR3 video RAM.

Meticulously designed and encased in sleek and sturdy aluminum, the MacBook Pro measures just 1 inch thin and weighs 5.4 pounds. Your hands have room to spread out on the full-size keyboard with crisp, responsive keys, and the MacBook Pro has a built-in ambient light sensor that adjusts the keyboard and display brightness so it's easy to work in low-light settings. Other standard Apple "extras" includes a built-in iSight video camera and Apple's magnetically connected MagSafe power adapter, which safely disconnects when under strain.

It's pre-loaded with Apple's Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system, which enables easy backup of your most important data via Time Machine, a redesigned desktop that helps eliminate clutter. It also comes with the iLife '08 suite of applications--including iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, and iTunes--and the newest version of the fast-loading Safari web browser. Other hardware features include a 200 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (which can be upgraded to 4 GB), an 8x combo Superdrive (for burning dual-layer DVDs as well as CDs), built-in Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), FireWire 400 and 800 ports, DVI video output, and an ExpressCard/34 expansion card slot for expansion solutions such as 3G wireless networking.

Apple Innovations
The MacBook Pro is the culmination of years of refining hardware and software design to an integrated art, and Apple's Multi-Touch technology is just the latest innovation to be added to it. The advanced trackpad now allows you to flip through photos, enlarge text, and adjust an image using just your fingers. It also comes with a MagSafe power adapter connector, which offers a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So, if you happen to trip over a power cord, you won't send MacBook Pro flying off a table or desk--the cord simply disconnects, without damage to either the cord or the system.

The MacBook Pro has battery life that rivals most notebooks in its class. If you'd like to make that battery last even longer, Mac OS X has a few tricks up its sleeve. Go to System Preferences, click Energy Saver, and change battery optimization from Normal to Better Battery Life. Or tell MacBook Pro to reduce its screen brightness and give yourself a little more time untethered.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Experience improved energy efficiency, expanded wireless connectivity, and amazing battery life with the 45nm Penryn series Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 processor, which has a 2.40 GHz processor speed, super-fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and a large 3 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

The new hafnium-infused circuitry--which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors--conserves even more energy, giving you more time away from the wall outlet. With a substantial 3 MB of shared L2 cache, data and instructions can be kept close to the two processor cores, greatly increasing performance and allowing the entire system to work more efficiently. And, because the processor cores share the L2 cache, either can use the entire amount if the other happens to be idle.

Hard Drive and Memory
The 200 GB Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0. The 2 GB of PC5300 DDR2 RAM (two SO-DIMMs of 1024 MB) have an industry-leading 667 MHz speed, and the RAM capacity can be increased to 4 GB.

Wireless Connectivity
The built-in 802.11n wireless networking provides up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g, but it's also backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g routers, enabling you to communicate with the a wide variety of Wi-Fi resources. It works seamlessly with the new AirPort Extreme with 802.11n. Use the built-in Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to your PDA or cell phone, synchronize addresses, or download pictures from your cell phone. You can also use a wireless headset for iChat audio chats and VoIP calls as well as quickly share files with a colleague.

Display and Graphics
The 15.4-inch widescreen TFT display offers a native resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels and an antiglare widescreen display that's perfect for color-minded professionals. The display is backlit by light emitting diodes (LEDs), which gives it a lighter weight and more power efficiency than the cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) which most notebooks employ. It's also better for the environment, thanks to its new mercury-free display.

Video and graphics are powered by the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT card, which is boosted by 256 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM. GDDR3 (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 3) is a graphics card-specific memory technology that's better able to deliver fluid frame rates for even the most advanced games and applications. The GeForce 8600M GT brings a new level of realism to the MacBook Pro with its 16-lane PCI Express architecture, 16x full screen anti-aliasing, 128-bit High Dynamic Range rendering, and a texture fill rate of up to 8.2 billion per second.

Video Conferencing with Built-in iSight
Artfully placed in the display bezel is an iSight camera, which enables easy video conferencing as well as allows you to snap pictures of yourself and create video podcasts. Using the iChat AV application, video conferencing is integrated into your iChat buddy list, so initiating a video conference is a breeze. iChat also lets you hold audio chats with up to 10 people and provides high-quality audio compression and full-duplex sound so conversation can flow naturally. For video podcasting, you can record a short clip using the iSight camera, then use iWeb to create a video blog entry or post your GarageBand-recorded podcast.

A while ago, I made what I'm hoping is my last purchase from eBay [I spend WAY too much there]. What was it you ask? A mini-DVI to DVI adapter. Thus hooking my MacBook up to my 22' Samsung monitor [I used to do a lot of gaming, now it's all work]. So now I've basically unplugged everything from my PC [eww, I knoww] and hooked it into the MacBook. I feel as though I'm overloading it, but it's fine, I feel. I might want to get a USB hub soon. Any suggestions? I'd prefer self-powered, since I don't have much room for more AC adapters under my desk.

Needless to say, I feel more organized than before. Not to mention comfortable.

Great notebook for student/home use!
This was my second Mac. It replaced a PowerBook G4 that had been in use for nearly six years. I am a school teacher and I carry my laptop to school and home every day. The one regret I had about my 15" PowerBook was that is was quite large and heavy. Travel on planes and buses was a pain and required a decent sized backpack or other bag.

There are limits with the MacBook in terms of graphic abilities. I'm told they will not do video editing and gaming as well as the MacBook Pro. I don't need these capabilities. I use my laptop for word processing, presentations, internet utilities and email, personal finance, and managing my photos and iTunes library. The MacBook does these handily.

I have found the upgrade to Leopard to be a significant one. I interact with Windows users regularly and as a result I've found it useful to also purchase Microsoft Office for Mac. I prefer iLife for publishing and presentations though. I prefer the Mac Mail, Address Book, and iCal to the applications in Office.

Other features that I find quite useful are the magnetic power adapter and the very multi-functional mini-DVI port. Most PC laptops have more buttons and ports but they are buttons and ports that I don't see much use for. For example, my dad owns a Compaq laptop that includes a button to turn off the wireless card. You can do that by clicking an icon on the OSX desktop so why do you need an additional physical piece that could break? It is elements like this that make the MacBook's design so desirable.

The only trade off is a lack of multi-media card reader but I picked one up for $12. Also, the 13.5" screen is a little small. I suppose that's a trade off for a notebook that's the size and nearly the weight of a notebook. I put mine in a neoprene sleeve and carry it in a standard sized backpack.

I've observed battery life of just over five hours using wifi.

Remember the old Mac SE computer? Remember the constant disc swapping in order to simply launch a program like MS Word? After learning how to compute using a Mac in college back in the '80s (yes, I am that old), I entered the business world and promptly shifted over to PC computing using the once known as IBM platform. I even labored for Gateway, where there was ready access to all the latest and greatest PCs as they were rolled out in the late '90s. For the past 10 years, my employers issued to me the standard office Dell portable computer - a new one every 3.2 years (approximately). Hell, I even own a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop as my home computer. I'm a guy who sticks to what he knows apparently.

But, on July 26, I made a sojourn to St. Paul to purchase a Macbook. It's the first Mac I've ever owned and it's not even for me. It's for my teenage daughter whose hand-me-down Gateway portable took a dump of largess proportions. Something with the power cord jack being connected to the motherboard and the repair costing twice what the computer could possibly be worth.

So sitting on my desk (see photo) is a nice shiny white Apple-made computer direct from Cupertino, Calif., (or perhaps China) to replace that archaic Gateway. With luck, this computer will take my daughter through her college years. In fact I know a couple people who are still using Mac portables that are nearing the 10-year-old mark. I'm guessing there are far fewer disc swaps required to make this Macbook run smoothly.

There's Always A Happy Gnome

After picking up the new computer, my accomplice and I stopped at the Happy Gnome on Selby Avenue in St. Paul for some fine patio dining.

Gnomes are bizarre fantasy creatures and why someone would name a bar/restaurant the Happy Gnome remains anyone's gnuess. A more appropriate gname might be the "Creepy Gnome." This particular establishment, though, features a cool menu of items along with some of the standard bar foods. Fortunately, the gnome decor is kept to a minimum.

The bar at the Gnome, offers about a millionty-six different bottles of beer including the very tasty pale ale brewed in Wisconsin called Fatty Bombalatty. A few Fatties and appetizers later, the mosquitos arrived, chasing us off the patio and back to Minneapolis where gno mosquitos exist whatsoever.

Macs. Fatties. Gnomes. Mosquitos. There seems to be a Lord of the Rings episode in here somewhere.

yesterday, or two days ago, I got a message from Apple that updates were available. SO like a dutiful user, I did as asked. I downloaded the updates and installed them.

Thereafter, my problems began. I couldn't open the bookmark folder. Just now, I tried to view my iPhoto folder, and the wheel kept turning and turning, and I couldn't see any picture.

I called up Mobile 1 where I bought this and the man said to bring my unit to the store. He said he'd try to fix the problem. Worst case scenario, the unit would be brought to the microwarehouse or something in Pasig.

Meantime, what do I do? Oh my gosh. My files...

To avoid having to bring my MacBook to Mobile 1, I decided to trash my iPhoto and just use other options like finder to get to photos in my memory stick. And my son uploaded Firefox so I can have a new set of bookmarks.

Hopefully the two modifications will stop the hanging of this MacBook... Paging Steve Jobs. Just kidding. I'm but a speck in the Apple Consumer universe. How presumptuous of me to think he'll bother to pay a heed....

And it gets a serious speed bump from Intel's latest 2.5 GHz 45-nanometer Penryn series Core 2 Duo processor (with 6 MB L2 cache), which also helps to reduce power requirements and save on battery life. This model (MB166LL/A ) also has state-of-the art NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card with 512 MB of GDDR3 video RAM.

Meticulously designed and encased in sleek and sturdy aluminum, the MacBook Pro measures just 1 inch thin and weighs 6.8 pounds.

Other hardware features include a 250 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (which can be upgraded to 4 GB), an 8x combo Superdrive (for burning dual-layer DVDs as well as CDs), built-in Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), FireWire 400 and 800 ports, DVI video output, and an ExpressCard/34 expansion card slot for expansion solutions such as 3G wireless networking.

The magnetically connected MagSafe power adapter breaks cleanly away, without damage to either the cord or the MacBook Pro.

Experience improved energy efficiency, expanded wireless connectivity, and amazing battery life with the 45nm Penryn series Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 processor, which has a 2.50 GHz processor speed, super-fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and a super-sized 6 MB L2 cache.

With a whopping 6 MB of shared L2 cache, data and instructions can be kept close to the two processor cores, greatly increasing performance and allowing the entire system to work more efficiently. And, because the processor cores share the L2 cache, either can use the entire amount if the other happens to be idle.

Hard Drive and Memory
The 250 GB Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.

The 17-inch widescreen TFT display offers a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 pixels and an antiglare widescreen display that's perfect for color-minded professionals. It's also better for the environment, thanks to its new mercury-free display.

Video and graphics are powered by the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT card, which is boosted by 512 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM.

Other Features

The updated Finder includes Cover Flow and a new sidebar with a dramatically simplified way to search for, browse and copy content from any PC or Mac on a local network.Time Machine lets you easily back up all of the data on your Mac, find lost files and even restore all of the software on their Mac. Use iPhoto to share entire high-res photo albums with anyone who's got an e-mail address. Record your own songs and podcasts with GarageBand. Break into indie filmmaking with iMovie and iDVD. This was the best graduation gift anyone could receive. This MacBook Pro replaced a 4 year old Powerbook that took my Grandaughter through high school flawlessly. The new laptop has the old one in spades. Faster, more innovative, better OS, great reliability and many more features. Mac's are a little more expensive but well worth the price. Just not having to deal with Windows Vista says it all.

First Mac Purchase and Not Dissappointed
This was my first venture into the Apple realm and I honestly can say that I am not disappointed.

I am starting a new project where I will be shooting alot of video and I decided to get a MacBook Pro to do the editing.

iMovie08 is as easy as everyone said it would be to use. The transition from Windows to Mac was not nearly as hard as I thought ( I still use a Windows Box as well).

You can view my video's I created at www.vimeo.com/jvreeland

I'm a fan!
I should have converted from PC to Mac a long time ago. Leopard is so much better than Windows. The apps are easy to use and looks great. The laptop itself is a beauty with an excellent screen and illuminated keyboard. Love multi-touch so much that I don't like to use the regular touchpad on my wife's laptop. I'll be back on Amazon shopping for an iMac when I need to replace my desktop PC!

The newest eeePC competitor is releasing in June 16. Just a few days away. So, here are some pics to hold until that time comes, along with some specs from Wikipedia.

That's the Asus, MSI and IBM on top of each other.....for size comparison of course.

Now for the Specifications....these are all unconfirmed of course.

"There will be 8- and 10-inch versions supporting a relatively high resolution of 1024×600. Storage will be via a 80GB 2.5-inch hard drive; 1 GB of RAM will be standard. Pricing is currently at £349 for the XP version and £319 for the Linux version[citation needed], which is on the low end of the initial estimate of between £299 to £699 when first announced.[3] The price points for the UMPC for US market have also been released. The SUSE Linux version will cost $399 and the Windows XP version will cost $550. Only the 10" LCD model will be available for the US market. Online retailer Expansys is currently taking pre-orders on their U.S. website, with pricing inflated to $604 for the Windows XP version and $560 for the Linux version[4].

It will feature one of the new Intel Atom 45-nm processors running at 1.6 GHz. Also featured is Bluetooth, WLAN and a 1.3MP camera. The Wind PC is seen as MSI's response to the successful ASUS Eee PC. It will feature full support for Linux and Windows XP Home Edition, but it will not support Windows Vista. The device may fall into a newly defined category of Netbooks." - Wikipedia

HARGA TERJANGKAU, Seorang user sedang berselancar internet di laptop Acer seharga Rp5 jutaan. Komput

HARGA TERJANGKAU, Seorang user sedang berselancar internet di laptop Acer seharga Rp5 jutaan. Komputer de ngan harga terjangkau belakangan kian diminati. Pangsa pasarnya kian gemuk, mulai dari pelajar, mahasiswa, hingga pekerja.

PERSAINGANharga komputer jinjing (laptop) kian sengit.

”Di samping harganya murah, fiturnya cuk u p l a h buat orang kantoran seperti saya.

Menurutnya, citra buruk tentang laptop murah tak selamanya benar.

Meminang laptop, lanjut Iskandar, tak hanya bicara soal fitur.

Product Description
Did you ever think you'd see a full-featured notebook computer that weighed less than six pounds and gave you the power to do cool things like burning your own CDs and DVDs? At 5.7 pounds the 15-inch model continues to astonish even the die-hard road warrior. For example, after you're finished admiring their stunning displays and marveling at their fit and finish, take a good look at the number of ports each provides. That's when the realization hits you: not only are these models super slim and ultra light, but they also ship with an astonishing lineup of built-in professional capabilities.Therein lies the vast difference between the PowerBook G4 and its PC counterparts: Unlike some PC manufacturers who ship lightweight PC notebooks that shed pounds by shedding functionality (even to the point of shipping notebooks without so much as an optical drive), Apple maintains a thin and light design while adding more functionality. And check out the strategically located ports: all the PowerBook G4 models feature FireWire 400 and USB 2.0, with an additional FireWire 800 port on the 15-inch models. Need video out capabilities so you can connect to an external display or projector? The DVI port on the 15-inch models lets you do just that. The PowerBook G4 gives you exactly what you're looking for in a notebook computer - everything.

Product Description
Includes: lithium ion battery, AC adapter, VGA adapter, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, iLife '05, Safari, Sherlock, iSync, iCal, AppleWorks, Quicken 2005 for Macintosh,&more.Apple 14.1" iBook G4 Notebook Computer - This lightweight (a mere 5.9 lbs.) notebook computer features a powerful 1.42GHz PowerPC G4 processor and 512MB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM. An impressive 1-2 punch that can handle your everyday applications, as well as your more demanding programs - like graphical and video editing or games. Being a great mobile computer has it's drawbacks though - you'll want to take it everywhere, which can increase the odds of your iBook getting a few bumps and bruises. Not to worry though, because Apple has you covered. The built-in Sudden Motion Sensor senses changes in the iBook's axis position, as well as accelerated movement. So if you drop it, the hard drive heads are instantly parked, protecting your data. When the iBook is level, the hard drive is automatically released for normal operation. Those are just a few of the many features this iBook has in store for you. Take a look at what else it has to offer: 60GB ATA/100 4200RPM HDD Slot-Loading SuperDrive - up to 8x DVD-R, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD-RW, 4x DVD+RW, 24x CD-R, 16x CD-RW, 8x DVD-ROM,&24x CD-ROM 14.1 XGA Display Native Resolution - 1024x768 ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 graphics with 32MB of dedicated DDR SDRAM Built-in 54 Mbps AirPort Extreme 802.11b/g Wi-Fi Wireless Network Adapter Built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR Support 1 FireWire 400 Port (up to 400 Mbps) 2 USB 2.0 Ports (up to 480 Mbps) 10/100 Ethernet VGA Video Out (with included adapter) S-Video&Composite Video Out (requires optional adapter) Built-in 56k v.92 Modem
